The acorn doesn’t fall far from the tree.

One of my favorite bits from Dan Wolken’s “Dysfunctional Georgia” piece from a couple of weeks ago was this stellar list of worthies that “Georgia could and should pursue, according to multiple people in the industry”:  Jimbo Fisher, Dabo Swinney, Mark Dantonio, David Shaw, Jim Mora, Gary Patterson and James Franklin.

This is how one of those coaching studs reacted last night during a loss to Washington State.

I would pay good money to see/hear Greg McGarity’s reaction to a coach trying that on him.

Maybe Wolken needs to find some new insiders.

  1. Dan Wolken is the biggest dummy in the pundit class … or at least competes with Dennis Dodd and Matt Hayes for that honor.

    Jim Mora … no thanks

  2. Jack Klompus

Mike Leach needs to be added to that list…arrrrgggg

Can somebody post a video clip of this?

  4. If I’d have know that I could get paid for trash, I would have gone to journalism school instead. Wolken is garbage. Sallee is garbage. Is this really what universities are putting out now??

At least I have not seen any of our J School profs screaming at a photograher, calling for muscle to have him removed. More than I can say about the much-ballyhooed Mizzou J school. So, yes, maybe that is what some of the schools are putting out. Not sure either of those guys went to J school, although maybe?

I’d take David Shaw in a heart beat!

While the UGA job is attractive, I think people overestimate a school’s ability to lure away a top tier coach from another P5 program. There is so much money floating around now, that simply paying more to steal away any of the above coaches is virtually impossible because the schools can and often will match almost any offer (possible exceptions for Texas and Alabama money). Unless there is some other compelling reason to leave the school such as lack of institutional support, alma mater comes calling, dissension with a new AD, etc., these guys all have a good gig and have estalished themselves, so there’s little reason for them to make a change. Our best bet would lie with hiring an up n comer or promoting from within, but people don’t want to here that.

Should be “hear” that. Jeez, I write like an Auburn grad;-)

Mora is a clown. He was one when he was the Falcons coach, he remains one out west. Let him stay there.

Also, fully on board with the Dawg-Pirate Leach! YEARRRRRRRRRR!!!

Well, getting rid of Wagers several years ago would’ve saved us a lot of troubles. If screaming didn’t work, I’m sure there was somebody who could’ve handled it – um, let’s say discretely.
