Lalalalala… he can’t hear you.

Mark Richt has a warning for us about Saturday’s game.

“I don’t know what the fan base thinks about this game, but I can promise you we’ll get tested in this game as much as any.”

“I don’t know what the fan base thinks about this game…”?  Really?  Either that’s so cute, or the man sure knows how to block out the noise.

His way of saying that the game isn’t a lock. He knows the peril is real and wants to make sure the fan base is prepared for a potential loss…and to know that he hasn’t taken Southern lightly.

    • I really doubt Mark Richt is blissfully ignorant of what the fan base is thinking these days.

See Biggus’ post 5 or 6 down from here. Some folks think it’s a lock.
        CMR is channeling Munson.

I don’t think it’s a lock. I fully expect the defense to allow more than 20 points in one of these last two games. Thinking Georgia can score 24 points or against Georgia Southern’s defense is entirely reasonable.

I don’t know what to expect, Biggus. Hope you’re right. The offense has been very anemic this year…all beat up at running back and no proficiency in the passing game have worn my optimism down.

They could also turn the ball over 3 times and score 10 points. I’m not optimistic. I just think given the talent in certain areas, Georgia scoring 24 points against a pretty bad defense is realistic.

Half the time I don’t think they could score 24 if there was no defense on the field.

I think he’s very aware and doesn’t give a damn about what the fans are thinking. He knows he’s in no danger, regardless of what happens the next two games or even next season.

  2. I don’t care what happens, if we lose to Southern (ever) the coach is gone.

He is saying that we are favored by 14.5 points but the O may not score 15 points. Watch your wagers.

He wants to make sure the fan base is at the game.

It will be dry football weather (for a change), a great tailgate, and a close game.

    It will be fun.

Well their passing game is worse than ours. They are going to run the ball all day.

  6. It could certainly be argued that this will be the best offense we have faced since the Tenn game, I could definitely see them scoring 20+ points on us. Obviously I expect us to win, but I do not expect us to cover. Can totally see this being an uncomfortably close victory.

I like that last word you posted. That is all that matters.

The spread is UGA by 14, so this is where expectations are. UGA should win by at least 14. That’s what pretty much anyone expects given the talent and coaching difference. It will be interesting to see if UGA goes air ball like West Virginia did and goes for a big 40+ point win, or plays it safe and tries to get out with a win mainly running the ball, playing field position, and on defense stop the run and force turnovers. I’ll take a 28-14 ugly win. That’s about what I expect. This one’s all about the turnovers. UGA will finish +2 to +5 in turnovers.

Georgia Southern against West Virginia had 5 turnovers and had 2 turnovers against Appalachian St. 6 of the turnovers were interceptions because their run game was controlled to less than 200 yards per game forcing them to pass.

Pruitt will study the film and do the same game plan.

This is likely what most fans feel should happen. An easy 14-28 point win, stuffing their run, forcing some interceptions. Scoring 28-42, holding them to 14.

I honestly can’t see Richt keeping his job if he loses this game. This I can’t see him losing this game. He is currently in the Fulmer 2006/2007 dodging bullets phase of his career.

Speaking of blissfully ignorant… ADGM is supposed to be on 680AM at 9a today. I doubt that there will be anything of substance that comes from the interview, since it’s probably Chuck Dowdle lobbing softballs about Senior Day and the Hartman Fund, and so forth.

CMR translator; “I don’t care what the fan base thinks about anything, no way I get fired, no matter what I do on the field”.

Georgia is nervous about playing Georgia Southern at home. Thanks Obama!
