I’m skeptical by nature, but am optimistic about the hire. With Smart, we should get a very methodical approach to program-building and coaching. It may not lead to an SEC title every year (or even every other year), but it should result in a tougher and more focused team. Here’s hoping that – at the least – the roster management problems and annual gakkings are now a thing of the past.

If Pruitt is a problem, I hope Kirby will move on. There are many battles to fight, games to win, recruits to sign…Kirby knows a good DC when he sees one, it that’s Pruitt and he brings no extra baggage with him then fine. Smart does not need anything or anyone to distract him, he’s got a heaping plate to deal with.

I hope that this works out to be a great hire for the University and the football program. My greatest hope is that Smart has learned that detail is too small and no stone goes unturned. Yes, he will make mistakes along the way that will draw the fury of Dawg Nation, but hopefully he will build upon the foundation laid by those who have come before him. GATA CKS!
