Salary? Yeah, there’s some.
Looks like McGarity didn’t get much of a newbie head coach/homecookin’ discount.
*******************************************************************
UPDATE: The buyout is eye-popping.
Of course, if he does well in the first three years, you can tear that sucker up. You know Sexton will.

UPDATE #2: It’s the little details I love.
Doesn’t hurt my feelings. Bodes well for Asst. salaries.

Are you kidding? He absolutely saved money by going the coordinator route. I’m behind Kirby 100% but definitely came at a discount over a Shaw or even a Herman (after Houston bumped his salary).
I’m fine with how it’s shaken out, though.

Show me a first time head coach who’s ever been paid that much. He’s making just a tick less than Richt and his buyout is larger.
I’m not complaining. I’m just amused. McGarity’s been dealing with a football coach who famously didn’t use agents to negotiate. To go from that to Sexton has to be one helluva culture shock.

Exactly. The J. Reid Parker Director of Athletics is catching hell from the reserve fund managers as we speak.

Name a proven candidate that was going to cost less? Once we entered this market, someone was getting paid. Kirby was the cheap choice since he has never been a HC. Nothing wrong per se, but McGarity certainly saved money.

McGarity didn’t interview anyone else, so we’ll never know.

My problem with the entire process in one sentence. We didn’t go for what was possible. We went for what was convenient. We went for the “change for change’s sake” candidate.
I want Kirby to be successful. I also want GM thrown out of the Butts-Mehre building.

Where is the praise for McGarity negotiating the sweet buyout on Richt’s contract?

Agree. Less than $4 million puts Smart in the bottom half of the SEC. A $3.75 million salary is somewhere around top 20/25 nationally. That’s within expectations, if you ask me.
The buyout is generous, though. And that will be a problem if he sucks. But it tapers off dramatically after the first few years.

His won /loss record is at the bottom of the SEC. He is being paid better than his results .
Not complaining. Just wondering when that has ever happened at UGA before?

I’d say the last guy was being paid better than his results

Then so are most of the coaches in the SEC.

I am comparing him to 2016 SEC coaches.

Bigger contract than the UF deal last year, and they hired a head coach.

Mrs. Smart will be getting one nice ride I assume since Kirby will in his free Ford F-150.

So, the UGA Athletic Association controls who can be invited into the Athens Country Club? Anyone not invited to join that Club can now challenge the Club’s 501c7 tax and public accommodation status.

Where did you get that the UGAAA “controls” ACC membership invitations?
Just curious. I didn’t see that stated anywhere.

Does the contract include membership?

it pays for membership you clod.
It also pays for a car lease, that doesn’t mean they control Mercedes Benz or Ford Motor.

Thanks for the insult. I’m not going to argue decided case law with you. You can say that this doesn’t make sense, but I know what I’m talking about.

You do understand that with GTP becoming so popular there, are unfamiliar names posting that may or may not troll the long time posters. I don’t know if Townie qualifies. ..but you get my drift. I’ve never seen “Squirts”
until the wheels got wobbly with the Dawgs. And I’ve seen far too much of him since.
Just sayin’

Uh, no. UGAAD has a corporate membership at ACC. You can plug anybody you want into the membership.
Thanks for playing.

I understand corporate memberships. They cause Clubs to lose their private status.
See 100 year old Spokane Country Club (now bankrupt because of legal fees)…and why they were declared a public accommodation. Google will do just fine.
I’ve enjoyed playing with you, but it wasn’t a fair fight.

Glad we have a coach. These contracts are always a little startling, but we got what we asked for. I’m afraid patience will wear out quickly if we don’t seem headed toward becoming Alabama East.

I think the real question we’re not asking here is – will he have an endorsement deal with Ford and one of those F150 commercials?

Win and that comes, for now deal with the $1800 per month for transportation. I like a Chevy Truck myself.

Nah see, if we’re really gonna go all the way with the image change, we need to get Kirby in a Ram. Get him into a few of those “get treated like a King” commercials. Have him sit on a throne of bloodied Florida helmets.

Let’s wait to draw conclusions until we see what the next 2 years look like………..I’m not quite as euphoric as so many folks here seem to be. I will support our new coaches and staff like I have for all the coaches since I started school in 1974, but I will expect the same things that were expected to happen to the last coach. The good part is this coach seems to have gotten the full support that the past coach did not have. Go Dawgs & Go Coach Smart. I’ll see you in Atlanta in December either next year or 2017……
