“Clearly, the system is broken.”

Even the Mountain West doesn’t want to play the Mountain West in a bowl game… especially one that won’t be nationally televised.

Ouch.

  2. I see this as less of an issue since they didn’t play during the regular season. I know, that would be like us being matched against Arkansas or Texas A&M in a bowl game this year – but honestly……that really wouldn’t bother me that much either. Penn State doesn’t get me any more excited than those schools would. I get that part of the bowls is experiencing new opponents though, I just don’t see it as a “travesty”. Admittedly, I’d feel different about it if they had actually played in the regular season though.

too many bowls as it is…somebody should be shot for letting it get this way…that bowl in Shreveport will have…what? a hundred in the stands and another hundred watching on TV?
God help us…start thinning the bowls out…5 next year and 5 the next…I hope I live to see it…

Old Dog, have you ever been there? Shreveport is one fun bowl game. The casinos are hot, the food is great, the LSU crowd shows up regardless of who’s playing, and the stadium is anything but empty. Try it sometime!

I’ve been to Shreveport. The only way those casinos will be hot is if the HVAC systems go down. Metal buildings filled with clouds of cigarette smoke and geriatric retirees playing six slot machines at a time. One of the most depressing experiences of my life.

I have to agree that it is pretty much bull that the Mountain West teams got stuck playing each other AND in a non televised bowl, but 5-7 teams are going to better bowls? Ludicrous! Also, anyone saying there are too many bowls needs a good shake and a slap. Free football is football.

I agree with this to the extent that there are enough qualified teams. If you have to pull in a 5-7 team every now and then, that’s one thing. But if we start seeing it as a trend, having to pull in multiple teams, then I’ll support the notion that we have too many bowls. Hopefully this is just a fluke year.

But year, if you like college football, it’s kinda weird to complain about MORE college football. 🙂

Why does the NCAA keep sanctioning more bowls? TV $$$ I assume but then this one is not on TV. Go figure.

Does LSU playing Bama for the national championship not count?

Maybe either team should have won more games. I forgot, orange slices and trophies for everyone.

I’m a borderline sycophant when it comes to absorbing cfb information, and I couldn’t have told you that they were in the same conference.
