I love what his dad has to say about the coaching changes, specifically, the new line coach:
“The icing on the cake was the o-line hire,” Tony Eason said. “You want to talk about all these people looking at quarterback development and the latest gurus and you have to fly your kid here or there, that o-line coach is more important than any of that. If you don’t have a solid line up front your quarterback isn’t going to play well and he’s going to look terrible.”
Amen to that, brother.
Thank you, Senator. 🙂

I say name him the starter today. Don’t wait until spring practice or anything. Lambert can hold the clipboard.

IMHO that would be a huge mistake. Let Kirby and his Coaches coach’em up. May the best man win.

I was being a little bit facetious, but only just a little bit. If Lambert sets foot on the field for anything other than garbage time duty next year, I’ll be profoundly disappointed.

Honestly, re Lambert..not sure of any games he lost for us. No shot vs Bama and the special teams and the D blew the Ut game. Hell, Lambert laid on a wide open receiver late in the game that was dropped at the goal line..would have tied the game up. Lambert was the least of our issues last year, IMHO.

The “least” of our issues? Oh my God, did we watch the same season? The guy is a mummy with head issues.

9-2 in his starts..check his stats. Ramsey set Bama up with a nice pick 6.. How many did UT score on us again? He wasn’t a world beater, but I stand by my statement that he cost UGA zero games.

You, sir, are absolutely correct.

Yes and he won exactly 0 games for Georgia.

I totally agree. There were times when it was maddening and I am not sure I was ever really happy with the QB play, but I dont think that it cost us games the way that the ST and D cost us the UT game or starting Bauta cost us the Florida game. The bama game in hindsight was never going to be close, but Lambert did his part in my opinion. Didnt turn the ball over, and completed 65%. It wasnt great, but I think the guy could be a decent QB with a year’s worth of reps.
maybe something to push eason or even bridge the gap so that we arent stuck starting a true freshman week 1.

I know it can never really be known, but I don’t think we’d have won the Florida game had he been under center.

Our play that day more than likely got the Coaching staff blown out. That’s my take anyways. Throw that on top of the showing in Jax last year, and there you go. A shit show.

I don’t blame Lambert as much as as I did in the moment. Bad o-line, crappy playcaller and no one outside of MM to throw to. But I’d play Eason from snap one. If he’s really that good then don’t do what they did with stafford.

No way he enrolls with a Coaching change at UGA…who ya gonna get?

No doubt they got him on the hook and reeled him all the way to the edge of the boat. Give Kirby a little credit for pulling him into the boat though without breaking the line.
And that’s all my fishing metaphors for the day. 🙂

I believe he is already the best QB on campus, mechanicaly. Let’s all hope the decision making while under fire is what it’s suppose to be.

Imagine how much more productive Chubb might be with an improved O-line and a QB who’s actually poses a threat. Great Googely Moogely.

Is there any word out there about how he’s healing?

I haven’t heard. I hope he can be 100% by the time September rolls around. I know originally they said it wasn’t as serious as an ACL tear and shouldn’t take as long to recover from, but haven’t heard any updates since his surgery that “went well”.

I live near Cedartown and know several members of the family.
By all accounts, he’s progressing nicely and should be ready by August.

Pictures from the gala showed him without crutches. I would think that is a good sign.

Everyone should probably temper their expectations for Eason’s freshman year.
Eason is good but he is not nearly as good as Stafford who was pegged as a future #1 overall NFL pick before his first college game. Stafford didn’t become the full-time starter over JTIII until the 7th game of his freshman season. He became the starter after losses to UT and Vandy in consecutive weeks.

^^This. We don’t want to throw the kid to the wolves right away. Start Lambert in the first game but get the kid some snaps. Actually, the only thing Ray Goof did that was right was the way he brought along Eric Zeier. Follow that same formula.

Agreed. Although I’m secretly hoping Ramsey has a good off season with Chaney and he starts over Lambert.

He’s ranked and rated more highly than Stafford was by the recruiting sites.

Whoa Nelly. I’m flashing back to the coming of Mathew Stafford. Do you all have game specific loss of memory? Colorado Stafford pulled for Cox to save the day. Kentucky, Stafford beat up like an MMA fighter in the loss. I’ve seen the new kid play and he had 10 other guys on his team that were pretty good. You can be the best QB in the worst league and look like a world beater. He has all the tools but he was running from the shotgun and his receivers actually caught the ball. He is not a Pro-Style QB yet, that is why he came to UGA to learn how to be one. He is Stafford 2.0. If your ready for at least 4 losses throw him in there but STFU when it happens. We better find some WR’s that can get at least some separation. Our WR’s always seem to be covered while the opponents seem to be wide open. I like McClendon but our WR’s did not get better this year. That maybe why he is not retained. Just changing coaches is not going to make a rookie QB all world. It takes time and patients and UGA fans are not known for that.

My recollection is that Stafford first really showed up he could be The Man against Auburn that year. You may recall AU was ranked highly (6, I believe), and we were playing at their place, having lost 2 in a row already to them, and coming off undistinguished (to say the least) performances in the previous few games, including Florida.
UGA went in there and dismantled their defense. Stafford even ran a few zone reads for long gains. We beat Tech, made a nice comeback against VaTech in the Peach Bowl, and suddenly it looked like maybe he really WAS that good. But he didn’t seem ready out of the box, especially that Colorado game, where Joe Cox basically saved us with a last minute drive.
Skinny QB may, in fact, be great at some point, but in all fairness to him, I think we should probably not expect him to be Tom Brady/Patriots version right out of the box. I’m certainly glad we have him and look forward to seeing him play.

Actually, Stafford’s best game was against Miss St. which was his first game as a full time starter. The Auburn game as a blowout and he had decent numbers but that game was really won by running the ball and a defense creating turnovers.

I felt Stafford suffered because we played 3 QB roulette. As I recall CMR/CMB kept wavering between Stafford, Cox and JoeT, until Stafford’s obvious talent settled the issue. If we committed to Stafford from day 1 (and wasn’t he also an early entry) that it would have made the transition far easier.
Since Eason is an early entry and if he’s as good as advertised, I say we should commit to him as soon as possible. If we have another year of waiting until the first game to name a starter it’s going to hurt, more than help, us.

He would have to sit out a year to come here if I am interpreting the SEC transfer rule correctly. Not sure he is willing to do it.
I would love to have Kyler Murray consider us. We haven’t had a QB who could make plays with his arm and his feet since, well, Aaron Murray.
Incoming HS players are never a sure thing and we need some depth in our sophomore and freshman classes at that position. I am certain Kirby doesn’t want to find himself in the same situation we were in last spring.

I think Eason enrolling in a few weeks will be a marked advantage in him getting ready to assume starter duties. ’06 Spring practice is one luxury Stafford never had.
Given that, I’m not sure how comfortable I feel with Eason taking the first snap at the Dome vs UNC…
