I’m not saying it’s the sole reason for Georgia’s disappointing season, but if you’re looking for some pretty compelling evidence about how the offensive changeover blew up in Mark Richt’s face, take a look at these graphs tracking the relationship between offensive S&P+ and coaching salaries for 2014 and 2015. Oof.
As the author puts it,
-
Georgia paid $2.4 million for staggering failure. They were well above the trend line last year. Mike Bobo was both significantly undervalued and subsequently, significantly missed.
The botched replacement is on Richt. The undervalue of Bobo is on McGarity.
Tell it, brother

I don’t necessarily blame CMR totally for the bad Schotty hire. The world is full of snake oil salesmen and it turns out Schotty was one. CMR just got fooled. Unfortunately it cost him his job. I wonder who would take a chance and hire Schotty now that he cost one of the longest tenured HCs in college football his job? But, as we all know, in college football there is a sucker born every minute

Schottenheimer wasn’t a snake oil salesman. He was just a mediocre OC and it wasn’t a secret.

This I agree with … I didn’t think Schottenheimer would be as bad of a decision as he was. I wish we would have stayed with a lot of what Bobo was doing in the playbook regardless of who was wearing the headset.

I said when Bobo left that those who vilified him would be singing a new tune once he was gone. He never got the respect he deserved. All the jokes about his crayon box seem hollow now. Would love to know how this season would have gone with him still the OC.

Sadly, and this is no disrespect to Bobo, but my belief is we would have had the same record but our average margin of victory would have been greater. But I don’t think Bobo changes the outcome in the 3 losses. Certainly Florida would have been different but would we have won? Doubtful in my opinion

I suspect we still lose to Bama but I suspect the Tenn and Florida games would go differently. Of course we will never know. I blame Bobo!

I think the Tennessee game goes our way with a better offense, though Mummy Lambert might have even been beyond Bobo’s skill to do anything with.

That’s assuming Lambert would have been Bobk’s guy. We don’t know what the QB situation would have been like had Bobk stayed.

+1…The problem was never Bobo.

Bobo may have been better than Schott but what happened when Chubb went down was what I feared would happen when Gurley was suspended.
Would Schott have looked much better if there was another great back behind Chub? Sony, and Marshal are both sold Backs but they aren’t Gurley or Chub. We will never know. Schott looked great against S. Carolina but Bobo also had one of his best games against a Clowney S. Carolina.
At the end of the season Bobo was good for a brilliant game and a head scratcher. We saw that this year with S. Carolina and the WLOCP.

Bobo made one bad call at USCe that turns disastrous when Mason threw the ball away. Otherwise, we scored 35 with a missed FG and a Gurley TD taken away by a PWG penalty. The Florida game was a head scratcher for sure, but we were marching on them until Boss got hurt.

Same w-l record.
Didn’t play Alabama in 2014 either.
We beat tech.

Say what you want, Mike Bobo is a great coach. I believe Ramsey would have been the starting QB had Bobo remained. He was sorely missed.

+1. No way we can predict the wouldas, couldas, and shouldas of wins and loses, but I also think Ramsey would have been the starter and been just fine under the tutelage of Bobo.

Bautu is headed to Colorado State and Bobo. I think Bobo was vastly under rated I also think Mark Richt was handicapped by the Georgia Way in his hire. Coaches who were successful and ran pro style offenses saw the writing on the wall. Even a more successful season here would not have been satisfactory for more than just one year here.

Does anyone know where Park ended up? Just curious.

He is supposed to go to Navarro JC but was a no show. I have heard both WVU and VT as possibilities enrolling in Jan but his Twitter is showing nothing. He sure is a mystery.

This is bullshit. Mark Richt did more to cultivate The Georgia Way than anyone. He doesn’t get to hide behind it after the fact. He was soft and complacent and made a soft and complacent hire. Then when it was going sideways, he was too soft to fix it midstream.

Ain’t it the truth. Shotty wasn’t the first poor CMR hire by along shot.

What an ignorant comment. ADHM controlled the purse strings and handicapped CMR every way he could including underpaying Bobo. If I recall CMR paid assistants out of pocket because of Scrooge. So me thinks you sir are bullshit.

Did GM make Richt trot out his third string QB in the biggest game of the year too? Or make him squib kick against Tech? Or make him fuck up roster management to the point that he played Alabama in 2008 with 68 players? Or make him have guys try to fight Bama in the tunnel and they proceed to get beat at home by 28 in front over every big recruit in the state? Or have his team so unprepared that he not only lost, but got destroyed by the worst Florida team in 35 years? Or follow up his all hat, no cattle NFL DC hire with an all hat, no cattle NFL OC hire? Or make an idiotic statement about getting on the “cutting edge” of football, then not changing a thing. Or continue to not address special teams?
Keep placing blame everywhere except on the person paid $4M a year to be responsible. The once revel inf majority of the time, people don’t “get fired”. People fire themselves by getting complacent and not responding to the situation around them. Roster management and special teams to me were my breaking points.
Bullshit, thy name is Richtopia.

A Bobo offense would have been better. We win in Knoxville with Bobo on the headset. Alabama would have beaten us, but I don’t think we would have gotten run out of Sanford. Florida? Who knows? We beat ourselves with turnovers as much as anything.

We win TN with Chubb regardless of who was OC, imo. Maybe FU as well, but Bobo would have had a different attack plan Batau, and might not have used him at all. I think the combo of healthy Chubb and Bobo on board would have been worth a definite one, very possibly two wins. But we never know, just another subjective opinion that is not provable either way.

I don’t see Bobo making it a certain win, He blew leads against TN as well

Under rating Bobo is definitely on ADGM. That makes me wonder if ADGM is doing any real analysis of his own, or just listening to some big donors, because by any metric available, Bobo was doing great work and was going to be hard to replace.
And yeah, CMR gets tagged with the Schotty hire. Schotty may have been a snake oil salesman, but he didn’t fool at least half a dozen casual bloggers who looked at his stats, noticed they were underwhelming and that he had no recruiting experience, and said wtf? That was within a few hours of the hire. CMR didn’t look at the ingredients on the bottle very well before he bought it.

Can we fire Don Leeburn? (both of them)

You’re joking but Leeburn is one of the guys who is a problem and needs to be gone in order for the Dawgs to really succeed. Not the only one, but definitely one of ’em.

Totally agree with the Senator’s bottom line observation.
Richt derped the Schotty hire. (And some past coordinator hires too.) But he also failed to mitigate the consequences, which spun out of control.
McGarity deserves blame if there was something we could have done to keep Bobo, but didn’t do. And I wouldn’t be shocked if that were the case…

So its time to fire ADGM as well.

It’s all part of the 10 year plan. If Kirby doesn’t work out, bobo is the next man up. Enter the “we should have stuck with an offensive minded head coach, we are all appreciative of kirbys work here at Georgia but now look forward to a new chapter with coach bobo back home.”
I do hope the best for Kirby, I’m just throwing out a possible evolution to this whole change at buttsmear.

Well, it’s certainly a great fallback plan. Hopefully Bobo comes home in 8 years when Smart jumps to the NFL after his second NC.

Bobo was obviously underpaid but I don’t think he turns CSU down for less than 2 million. It was his time to step up and he likely knew McG was done with Richt.

I find it curious that Bobo gets so much support now from the Richt crowd. You guys wanted to hang him a few years ago while many of us who suspected where the real problem was were somewhat neutral about the guy. For the record I think he developed into a great OC and should be a great HC.

Not all of us. Many of us were sneered at repeatedly for defending him here and elsewhere.

I remember that too. Sorry to categorize everyone on to one side or the other. I probably came on here pissed off too after the USCe loss last year, but I don’t remember having the same pure darn hate some had for Bobo over the past seasons.
