You couldn’t pay him enough to coach at Auburn.

Penn State’s defensive coordinator Bob Shoop turns down a $1.5 million a year offer to get on the Gus Bus.  Repeatedly, evidently.

According to a dependable source in Alabama, Shoop has turned down multiple offers to meet with Auburn coach Gus Malzahn and discuss filling the Tigers’ vacant defensive coordinator position. And it would have been at a salary that would’ve made him at or very near the highest paid coordinator in college football.

Both last week and this week, intermediaries from both camps were in contact, each time initiated by Auburn, the source told me. Early this week, Malzahn offered to meet to discuss the position with Shoop who is preparing the Penn State defense for its game on Jan. 2 against Auburn’s SEC stablemate Georgia in the TaxSlayer Bowl.

But, on each occasion, Shoop declined a formal meeting and told Auburn he was not interested in its position.

Hard to believe, I know.

Rob Ryan to Auburn. Seriously, I can see I now.

Gus needs someone that can get turnovers. That really should be his No. 1 criteria. By design, his offense going to leave the D out there a lot. He needs someone that can specialize in stealing possessions back.

He’s holding out for an offer from Bret Bielema, which automatically includes a prestige boost to the resume.

I kind of ignored folks that said “we fire our coach for winning .750 we will never get any good candidates”. But, in this case, I’m betting that many solid coaches are seeing that going to auburn will probably be a 1 year job. Maybe everyone think malzahn will be coaching for his job next season and doesn’t want any part of it.

If Auburn loses to Memphis and Bama wins a NC, I wouldn’t be surprised if they gave Gus the boot immediately. Gene got canned two years after winning the NC. Gus only played for it.

The maroon Chuck Oliver says that Malzhan has won one and lost one. I say Cam Newton won on, and Gus lost one.

  4. What if he is waiting for Georgia’s offer, LOL.

So this year’s holiday bumper sticker will be: “Some People Won’t Go To Auburn For A Million And A Half Bucks”

Have Gus and the president of AU taken a chartered flight to College Park yet ala UT?

Everyone associated with a aubrun, from the president down to the two year old with a shit-filled ‘ lil aubie’ diaper, will adamantly deny he was ever offered. You know , ’cause ‘all in’.

A new opinion about the value of the loveliest village on the plain vs. the stench of institutional corruption in Happy Valley. Id say the Gus Bus has a serious knock in its engine.
