Here’s a quick tally of all the open coaching positions at schools without a change at head coach.
And here’s the list of the current coaching rosters at schools that did make such a change.
Does Georgia’s status seem that out of the ordinary? Just wondering.
Who is the DC at UGA? That answered would make things more ordinary.

UGA seems to be on track to me.

I agree. In terms of numbers some are ahead and some are behind. But you can’t tell much until you look at who’s ahead. For example, Sackerlina looks like they have a full slate. Take your time, Kirby.

List of “New” Head Coaches in 2016:
Bowling Green – Mike Jinks
BYU – Kalani Sitake
ECU – Scottic Montgomery
UGA – Kirby Smart
GA South. – Tyson Summers
Hawaii – Nick Rolovich
Illinois – Bill Cubit
IA State – Matt Campbell
LA Monroe – Matt Viator
Maryland – D.J. Durkin
Memphis – Mike Norvell
Miami – Mark Richt
Minnesota – Tracy Claeys
Mizzou – Barry Odom
N. TX – Seth Littrell
Rutgers – Chris Ash
USCe – BOOM
Syracuse – Dino Babers
Toledo – Jason Candle
Tulane – Willie Fritz
UCF – Scott Frost
USC – Clay Helton
UVA – Bronco Mendenhall
VA Tech – Justin Fuente
First thing that stands out to me is that Richt is head and shoulders above everyone on this list. I mean, by any objective measure he’s the “No. 1 Head Coach” on this list.
That being said, if I had to bet on any one of these HC/School pairs turning into something great (read “win a conference championship”, I’d probably bet on Kirby Smart/UGA and Justin Fuente/VATech before I bet on Richt at Miami or any other school on the list.

If CMR gets players at the U in the ACC, he could have them competitive quickly. Most of the programs on this list are have nots/mid-majors. The question in Miami is whether the broader community is going to support the program. Fuente could make some noise quickly in Blacksburg (ACC, Hampton Roads recruiting base).

There’s no doubt that CMR now sits in a recruiting area that’s arguably even more flush with talent than the entire state of Georgia. However, I’m going guess (by what little I’ve seen/heard/read so far) that the administrative situation is going to be even more frustrating and dysfunctional than Georgia is….. with worse facilities to boot.

That’s true. The U’s NFL alumni have embraced him, and that’s going to be good for recruiting. The question is whether he can overcome the disaster of facilities. I think he’s going to get support especially given the cash they are paying him.

He has one huge advantage now at UM over his situation at UGA: he has bosses who want him and are excited to have him, instead of a boss who has been looking to fire him. The guys who hired him and stake $4,000,000.00 per year and their reputations on his success are likely to give him the support he requests.
I am sure that Smart will likewise get support from those above him in the chain of command, too, since they are betting on his success.

Dead on. Regardless of how anyone feels about the coaching changes, the new blood is sometimes all that is needed to cause an improvement. I wouldn’t be surprised to see both Miami and UGA enjoy bumps in performance.

your right it worked at Nebraska, and Tennessee.Change is sometimes all that is needed but more often than not if you have a winning Coach it just causes regression to the mean. The only good change that will come out of firing Richt is that it will cost McGarity his job.

The Gators have won 2 National Championships since the “U” won a bowl game. I’m guessing the pressure to win down there will dictate CMR’s reign won’t end with a “mutual agreement”.
