“You quickly jump on board. We just want to win, man.”

At most programs, a Top 100 recruit winding up in little more than a bit, supporting role as a junior or senior would be considered a disappointment.  At Alabama, though, it’s just part of the process.

You know what?  In this day and age with hat ceremonies and stage parents preening if their kids don’t, Saban deserves credit for making that work, all while grinding away signing top classes year after year.

Can Kirby do that, too?

  1. Dillon Lee should have followed his brother to Georgia. I hope he can get a job in Birmingham after graduation.

+1 that depth prevents players from developing to their full potential since they don’t see the field much if they don’t instantly shine as stars.

Bama clearly does a great job of vetting attitude and character as well as physical ability when they evaluate who to recruit.

“Bama clearly does a great job of vetting attitude and character….”, that is one possibility. Among others, their clandestine, black ops group does an excellent job at keeping naughty things “in house” for processing. Don’t get me wrong, Saban does a great job in running the program, but this policy of handling misdeeds pre-dates Little Nicky and has been a community “teamwork” project for decades.

A key point in that article referencing being on board with the process and putting team first: “The ones who don’t usually are not on the roster by their senior season”. That is the difference in Saban’s process and the way its done at UGA, for better or worse.

CMR’s penchant for undersigning has often been mentioned here. He was already winning at a clip of 9+ wins. Imagine if he’d signed a couple more 4-star players each year to fill the otherwise vacant roster spots. On signing day in 5 weeks we’ll know if CKS has managed to avoid that kind of inexplicable oversight.

Just checking the roster Dawgs had 85 on scholarship the past 2 years on cut off during of May 1. It was a problem earlier years.

“Can Kirby do that, too?” Yep–at Bama. Whether the Georgia way will prevent him from doing that in Athens remains an open question.
