Musical palate cleanser, hillbilly music edition

I’m going up to Athens today to catch Dwight Yoakam at the Georgia Theater.

As long as I’ve followed him, this’ll be the first time I’ve caught him live.  There’s a ton of stuff I hope he’ll play tonight – really, more than there’s time for, I suspect – and this is one I definitely want to hear:

It’s better in many ways but they yanked all the seats on the main floor and it does make for a long night. No smoking really help too, reminds me of the night when Arlo played and he didn’t allow it. That was way before it was the law and people were shocked.

I saw him at Billy Bobs in Ft. Worth in 2010. You’ll enjoy it.

Saw him Weds night for the second show (?) – played for ~90 minutes and covered lots of territory. My only (minor and odd) complaint was that it was very polished, with a super tight band backing him. Suppose I wax for the days of sloppy live shows (perhaps my Replacements affliction is explained….)

Echoing the other comments, I saw him several years ago and there’s not much banter in between songs. It was a buttoned up production, so not surprising that he can fit a lot of songs into a set. Would love to see him in a small venue like that.

I saw him at Gwinnett Arena in 2014 when he opened for Eric Church.

My only real complaint was that he seemed stiff and uninterested on stage, like he was just going through the motions playing his music. He had zero interaction with the crowd. Other than that, the music itself was fantastic.

Saw DY at Cowboys in Kennesaw circa 2003. Like everyone said here, wall-to-wall music, super tight, no messing around. Awesome at that venue – small, dance floor, up close and personal.

  9. Last time I was there was for Lucinda and that was before it burned. Just got to where the late start and crowd makes it no fun anymore. All accounts from the Boulevard neighborhood is that last night was awesome.

I’ve been a DW fan since the late 80’s. I have a ticket stub from a show at the Omni. “Dwight Yoakam featuring special guest Tim McGraw”. I’d post a pic of it if I could figure out how y’all do that. We saw him about 2 years ago in Tunica, MS. Enjoy the show!

Senator, you’re in for a treat. I got to see him a couple of years ago at Buck Owens Crystal Palace in Bakersfield. Fantastic show and so cool to hear him sing the Streets of Bakersfield in Bakersfield. Have a great time !

Saw him on tour last year when he opened for Eric Church. I only wished I’d gotten a full 90 minutes of DY b/c his set was terrific. Enjoy.

saw him wednesday. doors opened @ 8…line around the building by 8:15; the opener was T. Hardy Morris of Dead Confederate/Athens fame. When the opener is packed, it doesn’t bode well for getting beers/bathroom breaks. I stood my ground up front for DY, but my bladder and sobriety suffered. Get there early for the good seats up on the balcony, otherwise you will be standing for 3-4 hours in one spot
