The hanging curve ball that is Georgia Tech’s fan base

Seriously, this example of little brother-itis is so pathetic I’m honestly at a loss at where to start the snark.

I mean, what Chantastic angle do I take here?  Mocking being a part of history?  (“Full attendance for a meaningless spring game, when you can’t be bothered to show up for real games in the fall?  This is Georgia Tech!  You can do that!”)  Urging Georgia fans to make the Tech team feel right at home by showing up to fill 40% of BDS like usual?  Checking the calendar to make sure there’s not a conflict with Dragon*Con?

I think I’ll settle for noting this: “What’s interesting is that the campaign appears to be totally organic — there has been no official acknowledgement or endorsement of it from any official GT Athletics social media account.”  So those closest to the program are the least deluded.  I guess that’s something.

  1. They need to simulate crowd noise for their high school offense. We should help them out by giving their first team offense as much noise as possible.

Go read the comment thread if you haven’t already. We don’t have to shame them. They do it themselves.

Would be awesome if 25,000 Dawgs fans showed up wearing red. At least if would be similar to what they see every other November.

I was thinking the same thing. It would be hilarious.

I’d love it if some enterprising students started a movement to take over Mark Richt Field at BDS for their spring game.

If they signed this guy: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Luther_Campbell up for an appearance but led the fan base to believe that it was going to be this guy: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Luke_Skywalker by “forgetting” to add the extra “y” maybe they could get there.

Time to drop this game. They are irrelevant.

    • I never cease to marvel at the people who want to drop a game against a P5 team against which Georgia holds a 12-2 advantage over the past fourteen meetings.

      • I agree, Senator. My only complaint is that the game is a no win proposition for us because of the attitude of our fans. Win? It’s expected, who cares except the “old” alumni. Lose? Be hanged from the Arch by your fingernails.

        • Don’t want to speak for anyone else, but one of life’s greatest pleasures for me remains walking out of BDS with a Georgia win.

I agree wholeheartedly. Beating a P5 opponent and rival every year is very satisfying to me, and winning at Mark Richt Field is even more fun.

One of the most satisfying wins was walking out of the end zone uppoer deck after the ’09 win. GT top 10 coming off a win in Athens the year before just to seem them get run over.

The only way I agree to drop GT is if the SEC does away permanent rivals, and UGA has to play Auburn as an out of conference game.

              Gawd, yes.

Gurley taking over the end of the game in 2013 as the team roared back from 20-0 was in that same class. Loved it. And loved walking out of the joint afterwards.

How about the fact that the player they chose for the picture is wearing #34? Herschel envy.

I just want to mention that the comments to the linked GT post devolved into an argument that because UGA and the Falcons have the same color scheme, GT is at a disadvantage.

    That is all.

Funny how none of their “millionaire” alumni that they’re always bragging about bothered to bring an NFL franchise to Atlanta, leaving it to a UGA alumni, hence the red and black scheme.

Throw in two free dogs, two free o-rings, and two free FO’s from across the street and they might generate some interest.

That would bring in the homeless crowd. I’m tempted to put up a couple thou for free dogs just to make sure the homeless contingent attends.

I almost wish I had started out having a bad day today. Between this post and the magnum excstasty post (I couldn’t even type all of excstasty without stopping to chuckle), my day would have been brightened by the amount of joy the laughter brought me.

Tech needs to lobby DragonCon to be held at Bobby Dodd the day of their spring game. Problem solved.

I will pay any kind of money to a gofundme that results in a sizable contingent of UGA fans showing up to the game in a noticeable way. It’s actually kind of amazing that it hasn’t been done before…
