“Once all the pieces are in place”? Whatever you say, man.

Let me just state for the record that if this dude is correct in his projection about Georgia’s offensive line, you can put me down for a 10-win season right now.

How had Brandon Kublanow not earned a doctorate by now?! It seems like he’s been here for eight years.

yeah, but the Seniors have been “coming together” this off season and are real “vocal leaders”. Plus we’ve got some guys that “watching tape” every night and are going to be another “coach on the field”…just you wait!

I need to know if they were “flying around” at practice.

(Malzahn has already used the exact phrase. Doomed again!)

As much as I dislike Auburn, I kind of feel bad for you guys with Malzahn. Seriously the guy gives me such a snake oil salesman vibe. Not to mention that sometimes when things are not going right, the year AUB only scored 7 points against UGA. It looked like he had no clue on the sideline. Was Richt good with the details, not always, but he seldom looked like he had no clue.

Malzahn’s problem is his offense. If you are going to run it, you’d better be good at QB. There will be no spread teams winning natties with the the functional equal of Jay Barker and you aren’t wining 10 with a Greyson Lambert type talent either. You can’t play that system with a “game manager.” You are only as good as your QB in that system. He better hope he’s found one. Otherwise, he’s out.

I predict Jeremy Pruitt and Rush Propst show up on the plains in 2017.

When Chubb starts playing again, our linemen will immediately look like all-americans.

I knew he was good. But I didn’t realize just how great Chubb was until I realized how much our O-line stunk last year.

The Rams basically cited how terrible our OLine was last year when they drafted him over the other RBs. They knew that he not only produced, but he also had almost no help from a passing game or his line.

I think they have enough ‘good’ players…the question I have is do they have the guys that can excel at Tackle. I think Pyke has the size, but if he was LT material, he would have already been there, right? IF Catalina is a true NFL talent, even a mid round Tackle prospect, that would give them a starting LT…I’d feel much better about the interior with Wynn there.

People need to reserve judgement about whether our returning players are any good for the same reason CMR is gone. He and many of his staff were not good coaches in recent years – be it poor technique, poor S&C, not pressing the right motivational buttons of even playing certain guys in positions that may not best suit their physical or mental capabilities. Have no idea whether Pyke is an SEC caliber starting LT, but implying that Richt-Sale-Shotty player evaluations were unassailable may be a stretch at this point.

Sorry to hijack, but I have a question that I’m hoping you guys can help me answer. Someone recently gave me a framed panoramic picture of a UGA home game against South Carolina. I’m trying to figure out what year it was taken. Here are the deets I’ve observed from the picture:

The score at the time the picture was taken is 14 (UGA) to 6 (USC), as best I can make out.
We’re on defense, and the jersey numbers I can make out are: 45 (B. Bailey?), 5 (J. Phillips?), 7 (?), 4 (?), 58 (O. Grant?). Two other numbers are harder to make out, but they might be 43 and 16. (If they were 42 and 15, I’d conclude Gilbert and Bierria.)
The shadow from the skyboxes is long enough that I’d place the time of photograph in late afternoon or later.

Based on this, I’m guessing the game was 9/11/99, which had a final score of 24-9 and kicked off at 5pm. I’d feel more sure about that if someone could help me ID #7 and #4. Can anybody help a curious Dawg solve the puzzle?

I’m guessing that was the ’01 game, as that has a 14-6 score (SCU lead) late. I was at the ’99 game and, for whatever reason, I recall it vividly. UGA dominated that one throughout, and led 24-3 until SCU scored a TD in the closing few minutes (missed XP) to make it a 24-9 final.

I remember that game because there was an SCU fan next to me who went nuts when they scored that garbage time TD, in which he started hollering about how SCU gave us a good game in the end. Several around me got into an argument with the guy and basically called him an idiot. Also, while walking out of the stadium, a buddy said that perhaps new DC ‘cool breeze’ Ramsey might be the real deal, as UGA’s D shut them down all day long.

Boy was that prediction ever wrong.

Thanks, 3rd. 2001 solves most of the jersey numbers, but this photo pretty clearly shows Georgia in double digits and “Guest” in single digits. But it is possible that the score at the time the photo was taken was 14-3, not 14-6, as I originally thought.
As for certain games sticking in your mind, I know how you feel. I went to the USC on the road in 2014 and must have sat near the same USC fan you did. He was insufferable in victory. At least Kevin Ramsey was nowhere to be seen. 🙂

If that’s the case, then ’99 certainly could be it based on the score, as UGA did lead 14-3 at one point. Come to think of it, I actually used to have a Sanford panoramic that was from the ’99 USC game, so its probably the same picture that I used to have. They only do those panoramic shots every 4-5 years, so most likely they didn’t do one for the ’01 game (especially since no changes were made to Sanford between those two years).

These days I only attend 1 game a year at most, and I swear I always come back with an interesting story or two to tell in terms of fan encounters. For the ’13 SCU game, for ex, a UGA fan behind us showed up totally loaded with a friend and, after every SCU play (whether they gained no yards or 15), he’d scream “s*** is weak, cocks!” He was a huge fat guy in his late 20’s I’d guess, and was sweating profusely.

Given we were in section 133, he stuck out like a sore thumb and everyone around us couldn’t help but stare at this rabid acting dude. His friend, meanwhile, by this point was just sitting next to him, hunched over and passed out. No surprise that the fat guy was kicked out not even halfway thru the first quarter, and he was so drunk that he didn’t really care, thus he kept screaming s***t is weak cocks as they were leading him up the isle. Later on in the game, we turned around and, sure enough, his friend was still just sitting there hunched over/passed out, and was still there when we left.

Look at the uniforms. Cocks wore all white in ’99 and black or garnet pants in ’01.

Good catch. The USC pants in my picture are definitely dark, which would mean the game is 2001. But then, that’s not compatible with the score. This might sound far-fetched, but I wonder if a photographer might photoshop his image, so that the home team isn’t losing in it. Seems like that would sell more copies.

I’ll say it again, just different.

Give me a team that has an offense with enough octane to convert a 3rd down and not choke. (Clock eating 12:00 drives are a pipe dream for now).
A team with a D that can withstand 4 quarters. A special teams unit that at least makes field position equal.

Really, 6 or 10 wins doesn’t matter. Just a team that plays well is all we need. The wins are a by product of a good team. Focusing on the wins is the wrong answer, focus on the things that produce wins, not the wins themselves.

Is Khan a good friend of Pittman? Think I’ll cross reference his name to see if he wrote such remarks for Arkansas a couple years ago.

His basis for ranking is bullshit. Would have preferred someone pointing out the difficulties of all teams’ O-lines instead of ranking. At least we don’t go wild here in speculation about the O-line, do we? We didn’t do that last year or the year before because our QBs can all handle it without the help of the O-line. When things go wrong, we all know it’s the QB’s fault, not the O-line. play

Seems to me the 2015 O Line was supposed to be a team strength. Didn’t seem to work out that way, even before Chubb got hurt. Hopeful, but holding judgement on this year’s version.

Had the same thoughts, I feel Pitman’s reputation must be deserved because the praise seems universal but he will need more than one season and recruiting cycle to get us to the #2 OL in the SEC. We may be improved, wouldn’t be hard to accomplish, but I don’t expect any more than average this season.
