Sweet deal

Only in America:

Tennessee student Breana Dodd is dating Tennessee Volunteers wide receiver Josh Smith. She has cultivated an Instagram following. She is now using that following to promote Jolly Ranchers.

We presume Jolly Ranchers is paying Dodd for this ad placement . She includes the “#ad” lest anyone mistake this for an unbidden candy endorsement (Media members take note). If that’s the case, she is now earning more endorsement income than every college football player combined.

I gotta keep asking:  who’s not making bank off student-athletes?

So if she buys him dinner, does that qualify as an improper benefit?

I’m guessing he gets other ‘improper benefits’.

Who’s not making bank? Me, dammit. But that’s about to stop.😉

If I haven’t learned anything else I’ve learned this. Someone’s going to always figure out a way.

Watch the NCAA try to find some way to make life difficult for Josh Smith off of all this. They’ll declare her to be a “runner” or something for the Jolly Rancher people if she ever buys him a present or a meal or anything at all and ding his eligibility.

Like they did Manziel’s buddy who sold his “memorabilia”? Would think he was the test case that they use to get away – excuse me, get around the NCAA’s “Prying Eyes”.

Geez. Look at her. she can sell whatever she wants and will have no shortage of buyers.

    Damn, I miss college.

    Nice looking young lady.

Barstool Sports was all over her a few months ago. And for good reason.

Very nice subtle, double entendre from SB to follow up his “I got your massive package right here” with a post featuring her.

She could sell shit in a bag she’s so fine.

This is the kind of stuff that gives middle age men moral dilemmas. I’ve got a daughter going to college next year, but that is an impressive looking young lady. What’s a Hogbody supposed to think?

  11. Somehow I get the feeling none of her followers give a shit about her boyfriend. Wide receivers like him are a dime a dozen but her? She’s just a dime. He better hope he can lock that down before she realizes she’ll probably end up making way more professionally than he ever will. I’d knock her up, personally.

This. Advertisements/campaigning like this, has happened on college campuses for a long long time. They find the people who know everybody and are willing to push their product for some extra money. It is just a lot easier to do now in the world of social sites.

    I’ll be in my bunk….

I would say I think Jay Jacobs is mad he didn’t think of this first, but why mess with nickels and dimes under cover of a quasi-legit scheme the NCAA is almost sure to kick sand about or shut down, when the bag men have been working so quietly and effectively for so long?
