There have been rumors floating around for a few weeks that Brad Nessler was preparing to jump ship from ESPN to CBS, where he would eventually succeed Uncle Verne on that network’s SEC broadcasts.
Evidently, where there’s smoke, there’s fire.
One interesting point to me…
So Nessler’s giving up calling playoff games in return for getting the shot to do the SECCG play-by-play. Interesting set of priorities, no?
SEC Babee!
Er that and the $ consideration and the term…

Nessler and Blackledge were the best pairing in the business. If and when he replaces Uncle Verne it should help Danielson. He spends a lot of time correcting Verne’s mistakes. Nessler seems to know a lot about the teams without it sounding like last minute studied up on talking points.

I would say 2nd behind Pollack and Palmer.

Speaking of Pollack, any news on where he’s gonna land?

Haven’t heard anything, were there any changes mentioned for Pollack?

i don’t say this lightly and it’s an unfair thing to make the comparison but nessler is by far the best host since keith jackson.

He’s good, but he’s not better than Ron Franklin was.

I agree with both of these comments.

Nessler is somewhat of a Georgia homer; so I’m definitely ok with the move.

Indeed. I know for a fact that he’s a huge UGA fan and have mentioned as such here several times over the years. Mind you, he has to keep quiet about it, and his Minn roots gives him a bit of cover, but make no mistake he’s always pulling for the Dawgs inside.

A man with Minnesota roots in the booth is a good thing as far as old lady luck is concerned.

He’s for real, sort of. There is video somewhere of Nessler at a Tech Bball game where he has the mike and yells to the crowd ” what’s the good word?”. Of course you know the crowd’s response, and they weren’t even playing us. Doesn’t mean he doesn’t like us. In fact, I think he has a favorable opinion of both programs. But there is no way in hell a huge UGA fan does that, knowing full well it will be out there for everyone to see.

Nessler used to broadcast with Al Ciraldo, so I consider him a Tech man. However, I also consider him the best CFB announcer out there, and he’d be great replacing Uncle Verne.

Not sure how much of a true UGA fan he really is considering he was a Tech Play by play man in the early 80’s. I do know that his daughter was UGA student in the recent past and I think he had a pretty high opinion of UGA with CMR at the helm.
My guess is that if and when he takes over, most other SEC fans will use his address and familial connection to UGA to say that he is a UGA homer. So they will hate him because he is “rooting” against us.
However, since he is one of the most professional voices in the business, he will stay pretty neutral when covering games even those that include UGA as a participant so our fans will say that he is “rooting” against us to combat any bias and our fans will end up hating him too.
Eventually it will all end being about where we are with Uncle Verne.

How will Verne first learn that he is about to be r-u-n-n-o-f-t?

The minute he turns to Danielson and says, “we’re in a tight spot” is when Verne will learn the truth and the truth will set him free…

Tessitore is good, but he seemed like he wanted to punch Jesse Palmer in the throat a few times last season. Not that I blame him. Tessitore can get a little testy on the camera.

Probably doesn’t hurt that he’ll get a chance to do some Masters coverage every now and then, right?

Senior moment: I thought Ron Franklin was the guy who said he was a better person for having met Tim Tebow. Amirite? Or who/whom?

No way, man. That would be Fox’s Tom Brenneman. He still might have Tebow’s balls on his chin.

I hate that Nessler and Blackledge will be splitting up. And I hate that we are getting more Joe Tessitore. He sucks.
