Mora continued talking about Rosen and about what Rosen wants for the future. He said:

And, I’ve asked him “Who do you want to be Johnny Manziel or Tom Brady? And, you need to make that decision right now and you need to start working in the direction that you want to work in. So, if you’re going to go out on Donald Trump’s golf course and wear a hat that says ‘F– Trump‘, I said, ‘You’re heading towards Johnny Manziel.’ So, let’s head toward Peyton Manning. Let’s head towards Tom Brady. Let’s head towards Troy Aikman,” who spent an hour with him on Sunday, which was fantastic…talking to him about the responsibilities of being a quarterback.

Rosen is taking a stand in a place where he’s sure to get heat, and that shows a sign of bravery to me.

I love this site…but this post is a whiff. You are implying things about Mora’s statement that don’t exist. It’s just as easy to conclude he’s suggesting that Rosen is acting like an immature asshole by alluding to Manziel. In which case Mora is 100% correct.
Perhaps you don’t like Trump. I don’t either. But I don’t see anything wrong with what Mora is trying to do for Rosen on this.

As others have already noted, it’s not the message. It’s equating wearing an opinion, albeit immaturely, with what Manziel did. Not to mention that Mora is the proverbial pot here.

Read down to item 6. Green-Beckham, Shane Ray, and Randy Gregory all mentioned with character flaws. There will always be players talented enough to make teams believe it is worth the gamble on suspected character questions. The issue arises on those that are talented but not talented enough to make it worth the risk. There isn’t any question about the new focus NFL teams have due to worsening penalties on bad behavior.

Rosen started his first game as a true freshman. Don’t think he falls into the “talented but not talented enough” category; indeed, his coach thinks if Rosen had been in this year’s draft, he would have been the first QB taken.
As far as your point about “bad behavior”, I think we’re back at my objection to Mora’s commentary. Don’t see how you can equate wearing a stupid hat with, say, getting arrested. YMMV, I guess.

On the surface, its a total overreaction by Mora — though Rosen’s decision to wear such a hat was immature at best. With that said, we don’t know what else Rosen might be doing or might have done behind the scenes. If Josh is immature enough to wear such a hat and then post it to his Instagram account, I’m going to venture a guess that its not the only questionable decision he’s made during his rather short time at UCLA.

I can’t find any good actors here. If you feel that strongly, don’t go to the course and release a mature, measured statement about why you oppose Trump. If you want to explain maturity, responsibility and leadership to your QB in this situation, don’t equate political speech (albeit immature) to substance abuse and/or violence against women.

Not sure why Mora chose the public route but his comment is pretty spot on. It matter not that the course is owned by Trump, or that Trump’s name was even used. A leader of a major college team, and someone who wants to make mega bucks in the NFL and max his endorsements, should never wear a hat with Fuck anything on it. May be lack of maturity butthere is probably more there and given the reaction of Mora, I also doubt this was the first time he has veered off course. He would be a poor coach if he didn’t try to get through to him and point out what a bad move this was, and why.
As for acting like this is a free speech issue, that is both a laughable and pitiful position. It is acting badly in public, and there are many ways to do that without getting close to the Bill of Rights. He should have been run from the course for the jeans, the shirttail out, and especially for a crude hat. Trump needs to fire someone at that course if they let him on looking like that, I assume he put it on later in the day to make a childish statement. He certainly succeeded at that. Our society continues to go down the porcelain oasis (he even has adult supporters here.)

There’s a very good chance that Manziel would have been a top-5 draft pick but for his antics. Character might not cost you ALL the money, but it will cost you. However, given that the NFL owners are the kid’s audience, I’m pretty sure they aren’t offended by the message. They collectively said “Fuck Trump” 30 years ago.

While you are right about how the NFL has ignored bad behavior in most situations, it doesn’t excuse the attacks on Mora for trying to address this issue. I can agree it should have been done more privately, but it doesn’t change the problem with “anything goes” acceptance of punk behavior by many here, including yourself. A coach like a leader of any organization, has an obligation to teach/train their charges. Mora should be lauded here for taking a stand, not ridiculed. You may not like Mora, you may not like the tactic used, but you have to appreciate his stepping up, and have to wonder why more people in positions of responsibility don’t.

When our kids were growing up and, even when they were the same age as Rosen, when they exercised bad judgment, we’d have a quiet talk with them. Thinking of how my parents would have reacted if I had thought about wearing that hat. Then, I would not have worn the hat.
