I have yet to hear anyone explain how FCS schools would survive without the guarantees when they play the big boys. If the big boys quit scheduling them they would get criticized for choking off little brother. Georgia BOR has already capped student fees. I don’t know what’s happening with small schools in other states.

My daughter goes to UNG and the ‘fee’ amount is staggering.

Currently running between $700 and $800 per semester in “fees”, and hope only pays for base tuition, not the mandatory ‘fees’

Are cupcake games kinda boring? Yeah. Am I totally ok with how it works out for the big school and the little school getting paid? Yeah

With all the irony at this blog pointed at “the welfare of the student athlete” when it comes to the ncaa, I would expect many folks to be thinking more like “if we played 9 conference games plus 3 ranked ooc games our roster would be beat to a pulp, the kids would be mentally and physically destroyed”.

I’ve seen plenty of kids beat up in those cupcake games where the opposing teams are outmanned. Particularly cut blocking the bigger athletes. I hate those games and wish they’d be eliminated. If our season ends with the current strength of schedule and we’re in the hunt for the playoffs, those games just might come back to bite us in the butt.

When the 12th game was added it ensured another cupcake game. No AD with half a brain is going to put a tough OOC game on the schedule and risk being left out of the beauty pageant known as the playoff. As long as there is a committee or polls or any voting of any kind to determine who gets in the playoffs, schools will continue to schedule cupcakes. The downside risk of losing a regular season game to a quality OOC opponent far outweighs the reward of having an interesting game on the schedule.
