Still going…

The Nick Chubb will have a normal 2016 season train, that is.

So how many will eclipse 1,000 yards in 2016? I’ll go with an even eight because I think running back duos could eat into individual numbers more this year.

Here’s my list in order of the most likely rushers to get to 1,000 yards:

… 3. Nick Chubb, Georgia: Coming off that devastating knee injury, maybe he’s too high on the list. But consider that in 14 career starts, he’s failed to rush for 100 yards just once — his season-ending game against Tennessee last year. Chubb has 2,294 yards in one and a half seasons of work, so if he’s healthy this fall, 1,000 yards will be a breeze.

All that’s left is for Phil Steele to put Chubb on one of his preseason All-SEC teams and I think we’ll be done.

  1. I hope he doesn’t see the field until our first home SEC game.

I’m not sure they need to arbitrarily reserve him for an SEC start, but I would certainly understand exercising an abundance of caution. I would totally understand, for instance, if we eased him into the season much like the Rams did Gurley last year. Start him only after he looks 110% in practice for several weeks, then use him sparingly, slowly increasing his number of carries if everything continues to look good.

He’ll be there. They couldn’t print it if it wasn’t true. Thats just journalism 101 right there.

I concur. There’s so much to love about Chubb from his outlandish athletic ability to his apparent character – but his work ethic is just as outlandish.

Loving it when Chubb is remembered as deserving of being in the forefront of all backs this year.

But, Senator, what happened with the next listed back in 4th place behind Chubb? Having Michel as the next back to get 1000 yds is a big swing for us Kool-Aid chuggers and am disappointed that he wasn’t mentioned as ranked 4th in your excerpt.

Having two running backs rated back-to-back in the SEC as probable to exceed a grand each on the ground is not chicken feed and probably deserves a tip of the hat to Richt for getting them here, but the same applies to the writers and Steele for thinking there will be a line in front of them to make that come true. Kudos all around. I think some writers are UGA Kool-Aid sippers that hide their tendencies to be lushes and that’s all good for us. We will just have to keep their little secret .

Have never understood how TN counts as a non-100 yard game for Chubb. His injury was on his only carry of the game, it was an eight second long game for him. At least deserves an asterisk.

I agree with easing him in slowly the first 3 games, but I guess that is sort of what they will do in August pracices.

  7. I just don’t believe he’s ever going to be the same guy after that awful injury. Hope like hell he is, but if he played for any other school we’d all be skeptical.
