    This proves Mike Bobo is smarter than his detractors claimed. Why would he comment on what happened in Athens last year? He’s not Irvin Meyers. He’s not Spurrier. He wasn’t there. He remains, I’m sure, friends with CMR. He remains, I’m sure, friends with CKS. Why inject himself into that whole drama?

    He’s concentrating on that which he should be concentrating: his own team, his upcoming season, and his own depth chart. Does he have an opinion on what happened in Athens last year? Probably so. This just proves the wisdom off not sharing every random thought that flickers through your own brain, especially with people who aren’t trying to help you (ie, the media), and are really just looking to start a fire by rubbing two coaches together until someone combusts. Good for Mike Bobo, and good luck to him and Faton Bauta this year in Ft. Collins, I say.

      No way was Bobo going to wade into that mess. While he and Kirby are friends, I guarantee you he’ll be at the top of the wish list if he’s successful in Fort Collins and Kirby doesn’t meet the “championship or bust” big donors’ expectations in Athens.

        Considering that we just let our previous coach go 10 straight years without winning the conference before we finally fired him, I’m not sure I’d slap the “championship or bust” label on the expectations just yet.

        We have commenters here that are saying about Kirby, “Championship in 3 years or fire him.” If that’s not “championship or bust,” I don’t know what is.

          I say four years to at least win the SEC. If he can’t do it in four, he probably can’t do it. He’s recruiting well, is focused and the fans are behind him. If four seasons go by without a championship of some kind, things aren’t going to get better.

            I get what you are saying JC but maybe the problem remains elsewhere–inside the bowels of B-M. I still haven’t seen anything that says the “Georgia Way” isn’t still alive and controlling things just like before. Changing HCs won’t solve anything until changing that happens.

    That’s exactly why he was never considered as a candidate for any meaningful snaps even when Bobo was in Athens. Clearly, Ramsey got in Richt or CBS’s dog house and couldn’t get out last off-season. Neither coach really thought Bauta was a good choice except for the most important game of the season. We flirted with Everette Golson, but SEC policy wasn’t going to allow us to take him. Therefore, Lambert won the game of musical chairs and got the job.

      The biggest mistake of CMR’s tenure was starting Bauta in the cocktail party. The second biggest mistake was not pulling him when it was apparent that he couldn’t perform. That game was what got CMR fired, not UT and not Bama.

    I’m more concerned with this year. In particular, not repeating the 3 man QB competition fiasco. I hope we pick Eason early in camp and get him ready as best we can. Shape the game plans to minimize his inexperience and avoid mistakes.

    It looks like only ut is settled at QB among our division rivals, and we get them in Sanford. Get Eason ready early to increase our chances against the rest of the division rivals. That’s my recipe for winning the sece.

      I am one who has generally accepted the notion that a freshman QB isn’t going to be ready for SEC play as a starter, but I am starting to change my mind. Our situation is just a little different than normal.

      Our veterans – the ones you would ordinarily start – have been as mistake prone as Eason is likely to be. Plus, we have strong QB recruits in the pipeline which to me means let’s get 3 good years out of Eason as soon as possible, but he has to get game experience for that to happen. The only real risk is that he gets crushed and loses his confidence. I think good game planning can minimize that risk.

        I’m in the same boat. At first I didn’t see how he could possibly start. But then he early-enrolled and then he had the spring game in which he looked more than comfortable. And all we’ve heard is good stuff. I mean we hear that he makes mistakes (SHOCKER!), but no rumors whatsoever than anyone should worry that he’s not exactly what everyone hoped he would be at this point.

        At this point if he’s at least equally as good as Ramsey and Lambert in practices, there’s no way Eason doesn’t start. The reason being is that CKS can’t risk not starting him and Ramsey/Lambert being a disaster and everyone lambasting him for not starting Eason. If, however, he starts Eason out of the gate and Eason sucks, then he can put Lambert in and no one will blame him…..

        But what do I know.

    I have no idea if he’s on track to graduate in 4 years or not, but if so, almost makes you wonder if Ramsey won’t have a nice little graduate transfer landing spot at CSU next year, assuming he doesn’t somehow end up winning the job in Athens.
