“The coaching staff Kirby put together is exactly what Jake was looking for.”

I know this is little more than your basic preseason happy talk, but imagine reading a similar piece from the 2015 offseason entitled “Relationship of QB [INSERT NAME HERE] and coach Brian Schottenheimer will be key”.  Kinda makes you think, no?

And hope.

So hiring a proven QB coach/OC with decades of college experience is preferable to hiring a mediocre nfl QB coach/OC who has to adjust to the college game.

Of course, like all of our new coaches Cheney comes with some questions. But adjusting to the college game isn’t one of them. Nor is the ability to develop young QBs.

David Cutcliff-like deal there? (oh the goosebumps)

Just asking, has Chaney accomplished anything in his career above and beyond what Schott has?

    • Dog in Fla

He was on a boat with Drew Brees?

    • Jared S.

1-0 record as a Head Coach.

All of Chaney’s accomplishments are above and beyond Schott’s. Unless a last name is an accomplishment. I am not sure what Schott has accomplished apart from being hired in several places.

A couple of NFC Championship games with Mark Sanchez as his QB for starters.

        • Dylan Dreyer's Booty

Like I said, he got himself hired. I don’t know about anyone with the possible exception of you (does CB stand for Coach Brian?) who thinks the Jets got there because of him. Whereas a lot of people see what Chaney did with Brees and more recently Peterman, and a previously pedestrian Pitt offense. We’ll know more come September. We’re just passing time during the summer right now.

If you take the wool off of your eyes you’ll see pretty clearly that Chaney’s resume coming in is about as promising as Schott’s was. Let’s just hope the results are better this time around.

Would you believe Chaney has been hired more than Schott.

    Jake and the Fatman!!!

I got halfway through the article before I figured out who Jake was. I need a VACATION!

I think “Jake” will be phenomenal IN TIME. But I am not expecting a true FR to come in and be the savior.

    • Dylan Dreyer's Booty

He doesn’t have to be the savior. He just to be good enough for the rest of the offense to be the collective ‘savior’. He just has to get a 3rd and 4 pass completed a few times a game. He just has to be interesting, and not in a “I wonder how this play will get botched?” kind of way.

Chaney’s biggest accomplishment was getting Pittman hired as OL coach. That alone makes him super in my book.
