“He’d be the first football coach suspended under new penalties.”

Congratulations on being a true pioneer, Coach Freeze.

Could Freeze survive a 4 game suspension?

    Maybe?

4 games means that Ole Miss would likely be 1-3 with Memphis rolling into town.

That would be a tough pill for the Ole Miss faithful.

I think the Ole Miss faithful are pretty used to being 1-3. They haven’t been good for that long.

You are right. Most new money handles going broke really well.

They came back down to earth pretty quickly after Eli left.

I was originally just taking a shot at their program. Since Archie left they became a culture of losing, and everyone I know who’s been to the grove says the don’t generally care much about the game.

Ole Miss showed zero chill the season after Manning left.

“Despite his 44–29 record, five straight winning seasons, and guiding the team to its first 10 win season in over 30 years, Cutcliffe was fired by Ole Miss’s Athletic Director Pete Boone in December 2004 after the team posted a disappointing 4–7 record and three consecutive losses to LSU.”

That is the season right after Manning left. So the best coach they had in 30 years was fired after going 4-7. Yeah they adjusted right back down to earth when they set the place on fire by hiring Da Coach O.

I’m really glad we got a screen shot of that compliance tweet from three years ago.

I’m afraid that a head coach being suspended is like Bobby Cox being ejected from a game. It is as likely to be a call to arms for the team as a harm to the team. Just saying that I don’t think a 4 game suspension makes the team 1-3. We didn’t have a head coach and were without a number of assistants for our bowl game last year. Didn’t seem to hurt. Of course, not having Schotty might have been addition by subtraction, but still I think it’s more harmful to the coach personally than to the team in general. It would be really appropriate if it meant a pro rata deduction in salary.

Not having a coach isnt going to do it. FSU, Bama and UGA are going to do it.

I agree with that. Just saying the coach standing on the sidelines isn’t going to be the deciding factor.

I guess…seems like a strange argument to make though considering the comments around here for the last couple of years.

Seems like everyone agrees that coaches matter.

If Ole Miss wins during his suspension then all the college fans will find out the HC is not all that much as far as the 12 games per year are concerned. If the team is organized then the only way this hurts is if he is calling the offense and his OC is just a figure head. By the way does the suspension require that he not have any contact with the program at all or does it just mean he can’t coach at the games?

Maybe he can just keep spouting Bible verses and it will all go away.
