Senator, you were description of Holtz is misleading and beneath you. His comments were about ILLEGAL immigrants. He had this to say about the rest- “Holtz added that his grandparents learned English after immigrating to the U.S. from Ukraine, and insisted his family learn it as well.” BTW- my wife’s family also immigrated here and her grandparents made their kids learn English also.

Holtz may have used the qualifier “illegal” but when he said he didn’t want to cheer for immigrants’ soccer teams that was a tone that was obviously anti-immigrant in general and not specific to just illegal immigrants. No one can deny that Holtz clearly expressed a desire to see all immigrants – illegal or otherwise – practically abandon their culture and become indistinguishable from what he would probably term “real” Americans.
Which makes him an old out-of-touch xenophobic douche.

The guy is 80. Stick the microphone in the face of a dude that is 80 and he is gonna tell you what he thinks and it usually wont be pretty but at least it is not bullshit. He is a hall of Fame coach. People will remember his name long after the rest of us are dead. I think he is off his rocker but he can say what ever the hell he wants to and you can be offended. The first amendment is awesome for all of us.

Are you able to use your ability to determine what people actually mean as opposed to what they say to make lots of money? I would think a super power like that could really be useful in business negotiations.
What a ridiculous idea that someone immigrating to a country should learn the language of that country. Maybe you should try moving to France, Japan, China or Mexico and insist the govt there translate all documents into English and have teachers in all schools who will teach your kids in English. Let us know how that works out for you.

FYI – 2 of the 4 countries you mention do not have official languages (just like the US).
Also, if English speaking people moved to those countries in the same types of numbers that Spanish speakers have moved here, you better believe that English would take on a much larger role in their societies.

I didn’t realize 4-5% was such a dramatic number. Before you tout the 17% Hispanic population number, most of them are US born and speak English. Only about a quarter of them don’t speak English and those are primarily the illegal ones. While the countries may not have an official language, they do not go overboard to accommodate immigrants who do not bother to learn the language. I have no problem with someone not learning English in this country. My issue is that person expecting US taxpayers to pay for the govt to provide translated documents, bilingual teachers, etc for that person.
Speaking of illegal immigrants, why don’t you try and enter Mexico or China illegally and see if you are coddled and offered the benefits illegal immigrants get from the US. I imagine, you would not enjoy the cell they put you in before they deported you.

As far as safe spaces go, if I’m not allowed to sound pissed off because ignorant asses like Holtz short-circuit Conservative’s attempts to actually further their cause, then it sounds like I’ve violated your safe space.
Let’s take a look a full excerpt from Holtz’s remarks:
“I don’t want to become you…I don’t want to speak your language, I don’t want to celebrate your holidays, I sure as hell don’t want to cheer for your soccer team!”
What’s funny (and stupid) about his remarks is that being American doesn’t have anything to do with speaking English, celebrating certain holidays or loving certain sports. Reminder (and surprise!): The United States of America has no official language. In addition, being “American” is about loving American principles of individual liberty as articulated in the Bill of Rights, not loving a certain language, religion, food, sport, etc. And being American, incidentally, includes the Freedom of Speech which includes Holtz’s right to say douche-ish things and my right to call him out for being a douche.

The Immigration and Nationality Act of 1952 , a.k.a., the McCarran-Walter Act allows for the “Suspension of entry or imposition of restrictions by the president ” . Whenever the president finds that the entry of aliens or of any class of aliens into the United States would be detrimental to the interests of the United States, the president may, by proclamation, and for such period as he shall deem necessary, suspend the entry of all aliens or any class of aliens as immigrants or non immigrants or impose on the entry of aliens any restrictions he may deem to be appropriate.”
Note that McCarran and Walter were Democrats and this act was utilized by Jimmy Carter, no less, in 1979 to keep Iraniansout of the United States … but he actually did more. He made all Iranian students already here check in, and then he deported a bunch. Seven thousand were found in violation of their visas, 15,000 Iranians were forced to leave the United States in 1979. You won’t hear a word about this from the liberal media, propaganda machine.
It is of note that the act requires that an applicant for immigration ”must be of good moral character ” and “attached to the principles of the Constitution.”
Since the Quran forbids Muslims to swear allegiance to the U.S. Constitution, technically, all Muslims should be refused immigration.

You are mi-stating that verse. Early Christians did not read Jesus’ words as prohibiting all oaths. Paul took vows during his ministry (Acts 18:18), and John records his vision of an angel who swore an oath (Rev. 10:5–6).

My point wasn’t that I believed Jesus frowns upon new US Citizens pledging allegiance to the Constitution, but rather to point out how silly it is to quote a portion of the Bible or Koran to try to somehow prove that Christians should somehow be technically disqualified from US Citizenship because some bureaucrat decides their religious writings prohibit them fulfilling a citizenship oath.

Feldman lost me when he listed these teams as almost making his list, Appalachian State, WKU, & Bowling Green. I’m don’t think any SEC team would swap lines with those 3. They may be great in their conferences but I don’t think they would rate above many Power 5 teams.

UGA sits near or at the bottom in both lists. It’s just another way to compare O lines. All three should be combined to get a best analysis…uh..guess.

If you can’t tell the difference between individuals living off entitlement programs without demonstrating an inclination towards productivity and individuals serving their country or local government and then earning retirement (military, police, teachers, etc), then I fear your ability to reason.

Eh I get it. The military is pretty bloated in terms of spending. How you can be a part of an institution that contributes mightily to of our federal budget deficit but at the same time think less of other people who are also a part of the system that contributes to our oversized government budget shows a little bit of a blind spot. Why can the government take care of you and not someone else? Who knows what services people who are on public assistance provide. We don’t really categorize that information, do we? And how are we going to say someone who shovels paperwork in an air force office for 30 years is anymore deserving of public assistance than someone who worked hard at a manufacturing job but got laid off when their job got shipped overseas? Why are you the arbiter of what job or life situation is valid enough to deserve a paycheck from the government?
Not to mention people who usually complain about the 41% aren’t complaining about the much smaller percentage of the 41% that don’t actually want to get a job. It’s always, “The entire 41% is lazy and doesn’t want to work!” So it’s not really valid reasoning. It’s just them complaining about spending they don’t agree with. Which is their right, but it doesn’t make their opinion valid.

My boss is a soccer player player, born in Canada, the son of Italian immigrants, who played soccer for Notre Dame (and the Canadian national team). At one point in one of his last seasons at ND, Holtz was short kickers and brought in my boss to evaluate as a possible replacement. So, to answer your first question, yes.
