You want proof that Jim McElwain can coach a little?

How many programs can lose seven quarterbacks in four seasons and be the defending SEC East champs?

He may yet prove himself. But I’m not convinced after last season. UF did absolutely nothing after Grier went down. Except beat us, which still counts as nothing, considering our total lack of everything that day. They completely melted down without Grier, and their win over UT with Grier was a fluke. Hoping and predicting that we beat them down this year.

I miss the days when I could outright HATE the UF coach. Hey, maybe these last few QBs are leaving because Mac is a massive tool? Give me something.

Agree, if he were anywhere else, McElwain would be near the top of my list of favorite coaches. Seems very likable and balanced.

He was near the top of my short list to replace Richt before being hired by Florida. He had a very successful year last year, we’ll see if he can keep it up.

The front end of last year was successful… the last quarter was a full scale implosion, culminating in a giant ass kicking at the hands of Mich.

85 if not convinced, did you ever play the game. Look at what he did at bama . With Grier they beat us by 50. This guy is an offensive genius. Too bad for us. Can he be beaten. Yes but turn on the film and learn .

I agree that he did a good job under Saban. But I’m not convinced he is a great head coach. He overachieved last year; I give him that. But the jury is still out on him, IMO.

  4. Gopher can coach, but can he recruit? I’m still not seeing much evidence that he’s beating Jimbo on the recruiting trail, and for the faults of CMR, recruiting offensive skill players isn’t one of them.

Will Grier does nothing to change the absolute beat down applied by Michigan, Alabama, and F$U.

It will be interesting to see if he goes with his hot shot true freshman or one of the ‘serviceable’ transfers.

Speaking as a Florida fan, of course we are delighted that the Mighty Gators are the defending SEC East Champions. Even as we sting from the results of the final three games last year. The biggest disappointment, or criticism Gator fans have right now is the play in the bowl game against Michigan. The team was not ready to play. That was evident. And with all the time the coaching staff had to prepare, apparently no thought was given to try and adjust the offense a bit to mask the weakness of having Harris as QB.

It is almost certain that Del Rio will be the starter. Decent arm, good football smarts and apparently a gamer.

If not, he’s genetically predisposed to be a linebacker

Mike – the UF bowl game plan sounds like our game plan against y’all in the cocktail party – we decided to turn a running QB into a pocket passer…
Hopefully this year each team will be at equal strengths and we will have a good game. I just hope the team from Tom Petty’s hometown doesn’t win.

Meh. He won the weakest sec east in memory last year. And that’s saying something considering mizzou won the division the previous 2 years. I’m not convinced the bar is as high as it used to be when it comes to winning this division.

Had the author done a little more research they would have found that it is not just that they lost seven QBs in 4 years, it is worse. Every QB UF signed since 2008 has left the program. Treon Harris wasn’t even signed as a QB he was an Athlete. That makes the 2014-2015 losses to them even more painful.

For those wondering, Georgia has lost 4 QBs in the same time frame: Zach Mettenberger, Christian Lemay, Jacob Park, and Faton Bauta. Two were dismissed, and one was a graduate transfer.

Those that did not leave that signed after high-school: Aaron Murray, Hutson Mason, and Brice Ramsey. Lambert stuck around too, so it we had about a %50 attrition rate.

ZERO if BS & MR don’t start a dumpster fire of a QB and stick with him the whole game.

Weakest SECE ever in 15, IMHO…F the Gators.

It is a close race with 2010. The offenses in 2015 were definitely the worst in modern history. They were 1998-1999 USCe bad. Most of the teams could play a little defense last year… at least better than the 2010 teams. Also, F the Gators too.

I don’t know Senator…they lost numbers, but talent? My guess is this is what happens when you follow up questionable recruiting with a new coach in an environment where you get 3 years to prove you should keep your job.

But for the oh sh*t games we could have been the Alabama of the East. I’m afraid those days of the weak sisters are gone now. Now we will have to earn it.
