“Rashad just got there.”

Mo Smith moves into the secondary, so Roundtree switches to ILB.  At 6-foot-1, 205 pounds, I’d say he’s got a little bulking up to do before he can be counted on as a contributor at his new position.

  1. Third down pass coverage only at that size. Basically a safety covering the short middle zone.

I have visions of the other Tree. He once grew out of a safety’s body and became pretty good at LB as I recall.

  3. I think this is a good move long term. Hopefully he can get some meat on those bones.

Once Sanders & Mauger are gone, Roun will be back at safety. He is Greg Blue II. Has the size & pop. The move to OLB a compliment to his abilities and desire by staff to get him on the field.

Ya, Thomas Davis / Greg Blue kind of move. He will know both positions and if he buys in – be a Holy Terror before he’s done.

I saw Roundtree play in high school, not impressive. Maybe the other teams schemed away from him but I never saw anything that looked 5 star about him. I’m guessing his physical traits drove his ranking. He mostly appeared to watch the game from the safety position.

Unless he can put on 25-30 lbs of muscle, which is tough to do on a 6′ 1″ frame without losing speed, his best chance to play is moving back to safety some day. He’s athletic but it appears he might be a player without a position right now.

Add 15 pounds or so…and who knows, he could be successful. I guess you would have to see him play. It is all about attitude, especially at that position. Speed, athleticism and attitude can make up for a lot of things. A linebacker is basically a cross between a lineman & defensive back. Some of the greatest to ever play the game were undersized, but I understand where you are coming from. It is not always the “size of the dawg”……

He will be 215- 220 in the next 45 days. Good move imo.
Would like to redshirt him but we need him on special teams. Think he cracks the four man rotation sooner than later. Probably second team with Patrick. Don’t think we can keep #3 off the field.

  8. There is no way he’s 205 right now. If he’s not 215 or 220 already, there is something wrong wrong with our strength staff.

Is he taking the spot ganus played last year? That guy wasn’t “blueprint” but he dang sure won us a game or two.
