I’m not a Richt hater, I actually thought he was/is a great coach, but if he was still here, this is the kind of stat that would scare the crap out of me. Like “Coach X is 0-5 against SEC teams”? Crap! We’re doomed. Their quarterback has never thrown for more than 300 yards in a game? He’ll look like a Heisman contender against us. If Kirby can have the players focused and ready to play every game, every year, that would be a significant improvement in and of itself.

I guess it makes sense why he said it. For some reason I assumed UNC had played P5 opponents more often once you took out Boise State…Still had to go back to ’99 for the 0-8.
Anyway, just to cover all our bases…UNC in openers since 1994
3-9 vs. P5
4-3 as a ranked team
1-5 vs. ranked opponents
UGA in openers since 1994

13-3 as a ranked team
2-3 vs. ranked teams including losses in 3 of the last 4.
2016 marks the 15th straight season UGA has opened ranked in the AP Poll, the longest streak in school history. Although 18 is the lowest ranking since 2011..another year UGA opened against a ranked opponent in the Ga Dome. It is the 6th straight Top 20 appearance in the preseason poll, which makes it the second longest streak passing 1979-1983 and falling behind only 2002-2009.

We just fired a guy who couldn’t win more than ten games with the most loaded roster you can find outside of the NFL so I don’t know how we can expect Kirby to win any games with this totally empty cupboard of inept retreads and rejects. Given what we’ve been through I’ll be happy if they just find the stadium. If you’re expecting more than that, then you’re just unreasonable. CKS is going to need about 7 years or so to make us the 10 win a season type of program that we were in 2015.

Gosh, with all those turnarounds, why isn’t he still coaching? It may have something to do with WVU, Boise St., Oklahoma St., Colorado, making sure Ron Zook had at least one feather in his cap, a UCF bowl victory, and so on. Yep, Richt turned a lot of rivalries around, but my point was his poorly-prepared teams were regular as clockwork when it came to giving other programs a boost – and usually on big stages. I loved the coach, but the bulk of his tenure post-2005 was always accompanied by “will this Saturday be the day?”

Argument A- His good stuff was good so stop just focusing on his bad stuff, he won more at UGA than just about anyone else, he left the program in good shape, he won championships, 2013 was 5 yards from a MNC, Kirby is going to get a pass, etc. etc.
Argument B- His bad stuff was bad so stop just focusing on his good stuff, inattention to detail, roster management, should have won more, illprepared teams, laid eggs in big games, rode on 2002 and 2005 longer than he should have, Kirby is getting the same pass Richt got after Donnan, etc. etc.
Here’s the bottom line…despite both of your attempts to prove yourselves incapable of a rational thought, you both are right. That’s the rub. You can’t win either argument A or argument B because they are both right.
Here’s my preference…why don’t you guys go find some articles in the archives to comment on? That way you both…and the rest of the folks that can’t seem to read an article about 2016 without trying to make it into a Richt discussion… can live in the past and not drag the rest of us down with you.

I guess we will eventually get over the fact that some of our fans detested Mark Richt because he never won a NC. Some of our fans while not happy with his record against Florida could live with 9.5 wins per year. I am of the camp that says what’s done is done. Kirby is our coach and we should support our coach and team. I do wish that every time Mark’s name is mentioned we could stop all the crap of running him and 15 years of service to the University down. Once McGarity is gone I’m sure the powers that be will honor him for being the second best coach in UGA history. Our problem is we always think we are better than we really are. Since we can’t be wrong the coaches must suck. We have, except for a brief 3 years in the 1980’s, been a marginally successful football team when compared with the national powers. We have never sustained greatness but we have flirted with it. I hope Kirby can change that and I wish him well. Go Dawgs.

Man, I don’t run what CMR did down. I appreciate that he elevated the program to the point that winning 10 games was considered underachieving. CMR had clearly done all that he could do at UGA. It was time to move on. UGA has the potential to be an ELITE football program and he wasn’t going to take it there. I wish some of you would separate Mark Richt the great man from Mark Richt the above average coach. A week from now will be the start of a new era of UGA football. Let’s focus on that instead of Miami’s head man.

Sorry, I can’t view Richt’s tenure as “…15 years of service to the University…” Richt was paid $50 million for those 15 years. I don’t see any need to thank him for his “service”. If anything, he should thank Georgia for the last 7 years of money for not much work.
Richt is gone, Kirby is the coach, I’m glad of both of those things. When the Richt disciples start throwing the 9.73 wins average, best coach ever at Georgia, should have kept him, etc., etc. you are going to get the pushback. I’m hoping Kirby can make everyone forget about the past 10 years.

I have not seen anybody saying anything negative about the change since it was made. I was opposed to it before it was made but I’ve been nothing but supportive and optimistic since the change was made. I think that the vast, overwhelming majority of fans who wanted to stay the course have exactly the same attitude. I know that it might make the “fire Richt!” crowd feel better thinking that there is an equally large, annoying and unreasonable “Fire Kirby!” crowd. There just ain’t.
The Fire Kirby crowd will be comprised mainly of members of the Fire Richt crowd almost to a person.

I don’t know what is going to happen Saturday but that’s part of the beauty of it. If Richt was still here I would have a sick feeling that we were about to give NC a great start to their season. Sort of like the way we shot ourselves in both feet un til the gun was empty to give Bootch his “signature win”, made Boise State legit, helped Spurrier make SC legit etc. we always seemed to piss our pants in games like this the last few years of Richt’s time at UGA.
