This appears to be a real inside baseball kind of note, or just some teasing between old teammates, but it’s interesting.
I don’t know if Stinchcomb is joking, or if Kevin Butler is a student again, but if he’s really working with the place kickers, it’s a move that can’t hurt.

UPDATE: So, it’s a thing. Weiszer has the deets.
Per a Prof I know he is a student and I’ve heard jokes he was going to be a GA but wasn’t sure if serious or not.

Off topic, but “Fans are encouraged to red for all home games, with the exception of our game with Louisiana-Lafayette. For the November 19 game against ULL, fans are encouraged to wear black.”

ULL? That’s a disappointment.

Should be a win though….

A real disappointment. Maybe we should revolt and chose our own blackout game. I say Auburn!!

Was hoping it would be tech. Especially if OOC game.

Was there an “or” somewhere in that announcement?
“UGA fans to wear black for ULL OR Auburn OR Ga Tech”

I guess we know now when the black jerseys will come out. I doubt Athens will turn into a preppy Goth convention for ULL. I wear black for most games now, so it won’t make a difference to me.

Wear black jerseys every game to let Kirby know that the fans are the boss.

I love the black jersey. It didn’t have a damn bit to do with the @$$ whippings we applied to the Barn and to Colt Brennan in 2007 or the Alabama woodshed job in 2008. More physical and athletic players were the cause in all 3 cases. My only point is that the home crowd isn’t likely to get into the whole “wear black” thing for the Ragin’ Cajuns.

Nothing like fake juice in exchange for cold hard cash. Sounds like someone shared Saban’s frustration with the fans attitude towards cupcakes and as a bonus…reserve fund!
Oh well. If it focuses our guys to play more focused ball vs. a lesser opponent, then fine.

It’s not fake juice. It’s one of our colors.

We still drink a lot of it.

I thought “fake juice” was just shorthand for “Richt has trouble motivating his team without resorting to diversions such as alternate jerseys”. Why does Kirby Smart allowing the team to wear black jerseys constitute “fake juice”?

I agree with you; in this case, I don’t think it constitutes fake juice either. We’re just wearing the jerseys. It’s not a reward or an incentive, it’s just a different color. Therefore, not fake juice.

Starting your 3rd string QB in the most important game of the year is fake juice.

Very disappointed with handling it this way. Love to see us get past the silly, self-imposed black jersey ban but why does McStupid/Kirby have to be fashion coordinators? We aren’t in a damned wedding as groomsmen and bridesmaids, fans should wear whatever they wish and they will still be united bythe team whether they wear red, black, or white jerseys. It is this pre-announcement BS that led to the controversy before. Keep it between the staff and team (like we do our depth charts) and stay with our primary colors. Let the players have a say so long as they keep it internal until gametime. I don’t think ND announces when they wear green jerseys, nor do the fans try to act like they need to wear a specific color to be unified with the team.

Recruiting… plus it looks cool and SHOWS unity to have everyone in the stands dressed as the players or in unison with each other. As much as I hate UT, having certain sections wear orange or white checkerboarding the entire stadium looked pretty awesome to me… imagine in the eyes of a 17 y.o. recruit

They pulled the same thing when the NCAA outlawed “Volunteer Coaches” Bill Hartman was in his 60’s or 70’s and was a GA for two years. Butler can get two years easy.

Coach Hartman was the most overqualified student assistant coach in history.
Kevin would most likely agree.

I saw that too. Does roughly 10 years of separation equal teammates?? Not sure.
I hope butler knows as much about coaching kicking as he does actual kicking. I can see him putting the ball on the fifty and saying “ok, it’s all on you. I made it. Can you?”

Did Kevin punt or kick? I did not think he coached his son but if he did that is good because Drew is one of our best.

Kevin was one of the best place kickers we’ve had, all time. He had a brilliant career in the NFL with the Bears too. He was tremendously gifted in the era in which he played.

Finally, glad to see it. Surely there’s some sort of “class” Butler can enroll in to help on kicking. And if he fails, he’ll just ha e to take it again…and again.
