It’s the pressure, stupid.

To illustrate further a point made in my previous post about Lambert, please see this chart compiled by David Hale:

As we used to say in law school, res ipsa loquitur.

UPDATE:  I asked David what “under pressure” means.  Here’s his response.

And before you say, all quarterbacks are worse under pressure, here’s some context for his performance.

Seems to me if Chaney can figure out a way to overcome that, there’s some better than average upside to be gained here.

We’ll be ok tomorrow night. Chubb will keep them honest and Lambert will have enough favorable opportunities to succeed. I just hope we can make a seemless transition by either Ole Miss or UF. One or both of those teams are going to be able to put some pressure on the qb to make plays and we know what happens then.

If we stay (get) heathy at RB and can play similar defense as we did last year we’ll be ok. If we struggle to run the ball and/or give up 30+ strap up for a long season. If we do what I think we’ll do: a 38-16 type of game, we’re a contender.

I have more faith in Pittman, Chaney, and Kirby fixing this problem than I did in Sale, Schottenheimer, and Richt.

Also, Greyson enters this game with thirteen months of practice and experience in the program, rather than four weeks.

To be honest, I am more concerned about our defense and special teams keeping this game from being a shootout.

Well, with a 1.6 rating he’s got nowhere to go but up.

Smart was very good at confusing opposing QBs at Alabama – but when that failed, his secondary could get lit up. Trubisky really is the wild card in this game. If he can read a defense effectively, it probably will be a bit of a shoot-out.

Overall, not disappointed by starting Lambert and actually agree it as it’s easer to transition to Eason than back to Lambert. One thing that really bothers me about Lambert, though, is that for a 6’5″ QB, he threw the ball into the dirt and has balls batted down more than any guy that tall should, pressure or no pressure. Hope they have fixed that problem with his delivery.

    • He also ran out of the pocket way too early a lot of times last year. Hopefully Chaney is more of a QB whisperer than Schitty was. Would be hard for him not to be so hopefully a guy with the physical skills of Lambert will have taken a step forward.

I’d pull for Kapernick if he was in the red and black so go GL and get a win.

Right now, my gut is telling me this is going to be like our last few trips to the dome. And if that turns out to be true, then I can’t wait for them to knock it down.

If UNC pressures at the same rate on Saturday, Lambert should complete about 58%. But if they don’t get that much pressure, or Lambert has been coached up to respond to pressure better, that number will go up.

Why are we looking at negative data about our starting QB? Has Seth and the AJC just now read of his past ? What possible good can this do except try to embarrass our starter? Or maybe it’s just a writer trying to justify his paper’s stance because Greyson’s our Dawg.

Lighten up, Missy, because we have a game to cheer tomorrow night.

  16. What these stats say is if you protect Lambert, he has the ability to carve up a defense.

    Pittman, earn your salary.
