1. 234 of Nick Chubb’s (RB, Georgia) 302 yards have come after contact
Much has been made of Chubb’s devastating knee injury last October. Through two games, he seems to be fully recovered. Chubb leads the country with 234 yards after contact. Only 13 running backs in the country have more total yards than Chubb has after contact. One of the reasons for the large percentage of yards after contact is Georgia’s inability to run block – ranked 118th through the first two weeks. If the Bulldogs offensive line can mesh as a unit, Chubb can run them into the college football playoff.
Yeah, me neither.
You know, it’s normally the back’s job to buy his linemen a nice dinner. If this keeps up, those guys need to pitch in and get Chubb a Bones gift card, or something.

When you consistently undersign, underdevelop, and bleed OL, this is the result.
It’s going to take a couple of seasons for Pittman/Smart to get this thing going.

CMR didn’t sign any good tackles for years and didn’t go after the right body types to play in the SEC.

The O-Line philosophy under CMR appeared that he wanted all the O-Linemen to be guards so he could move them around interchangeably along the line. This is a fallacy bought into by people who really do not understand the difference between the skill sets required of guards and tackles. It’s sort of like asking a RB to be a WR and vice versa. Do both need to be able to catch the football? Do both need to be able to run with the football? Yes to both. But they still are not the same thing and asking them to be the same hurts both. A guard can be a center but a guard cannot really be a tackle–at least should not be–and vice-versa.

You may be saying that tongue in cheek but the personnel problem brought on by CMR’s recruiting philosophy (i.e. ignore the lines and concentrate on skill positions plus don’t use all available scholarships) has been the root cause of Georgia’s problem on the field. That can be cured by a HC with a competent recruiting plan in 1 recruiting class, 2 max.

How about this excuse? He wanted to play smashmouth when he had finesse personnel and didn’t have the O-linemen to pull smashmouth off. If Smart does what he did last game this whole season it will be questionable if the Dawgs play in a bowl.

And that is a good question. We weren’t a very good offensive line last year, nor in the years before, but we now have a guru that has been there 8+ months, and I have never seen a UGA line get whipped like that in the past 35 years. Most of these guys played a lot last year, and we have added a few pieces. We have to hold someone accountable, the players, Cheney, or Pittman. Probably a little of all of them. We now know we have an issue, or issues. We have 10-11 that we like, I want to see more than the same five this week unless they step it up.

No, it’s just that their mediocrity or worse doesn’t allow them any margin for error. When a good line plays badly against a bad team, it doesn’t kill your offense. When an average to below average line plays badly against a bad team, you get what we saw out of Georgia’s running game Saturday.

The line can play a lot better than it did against Nicholls – in fact, it did play a lot better against UNC which is a P5 school. I don’t think it is systemic. There are some plays they are pretty good at. The sweep where they pull Pyke and let him ramble in front the ball is lethal – he is good at finding the guy to seal the edge.

They did have some better short-yardage push vs UNC, which was a massive improvement over the 2015 edition, but yeah…more recruiting and S&C work has to happen before numbers like line yards are anything above average for a season.

Understanding ol/DL needs a couple recruiting cycles to get depth, really thought the ol would be our rock to stand on this year, given the ol coaches resume…….let’s see if our offense scheme Saturday can play to our strengths and minimize our short comings. GO DAWGS!

I thought for a I-AA team Nicholls was pretty damn good. They have a good QB, good RBs and their lines are better than one would expect. I don’t care what their record was last year. This year I expect them to make the FCS Playoff and win some games.

WAAAAHH! The ACC announced Wednesday that it is moving all neutral-site conference championship games out of the state of North Carolina as a result of the state’s controversial House Bill 2 law that limits the legal protection of the LGBT community.
This means the upcoming ACC football championship game set for Charlotte on Dec. 3 will no longer be played there. Conference commissioner John Swofford said in a statement that a new location will be announced at a later date.

From what I recall, the NCAA doesn’t have jurisdiction over any D1 bowls, or postseason football, except as it relates to eligibility (redshirts, academic requirements, etc.

Last time I was at the Bones it was followed with a Bob Dylan concert at the Fox. Dont remember if it ended with an x or s. Great steak! Kids were in middle school.
Last time I saw BD was with my youngest son in South Carolina. Dylan voice was gravely. ..son was in college.
Once upon a time there was a steak house on Baxter called T-Bones. Served a “”Walker’s Fillet”. Pretty good.
First time road trip to Missouri was with my youngest son. He drove the most. They have splendid fans. “Thanx for coming” was their common refrain.

I can see that UGA by 2 TDs, but my confidence is still shook by last week. A case can also be made for Mizzou by double digits as not only was our offense stymied by a lesser opponent, Kirby doesn’t have the greatest record against a HUNH offense. I am not betting UGA giving 7, but also not taking Mizzou and the points. Gun to my head, I think UGA wins. Also like that Mizzou has 15K unsold tickets, doesn’t indicate they are behind their boys this year, like they were our first trip there. Will take any type of W we can earn at this point, would also like to see some light at the end of the tunnel as the next two weeks look ominous for a team that hasn’t figured out base level blocking yet.

It would greatly help the OL, and Chubb, if we could get a decent, consistent passing game going to back opposing defenses off a little. I really hope we pick a QB soon and roll with him.
Not really sure how I feel about our offense right now. The playcalling and the unit as a whole. It’s great if you have elite athletes across the board but then so is most any offense. Tight OL splits and formations that give away many of our plays. Tons of good TEs that only run block. Our deep passes are mostly empty sets where everyone goes deep and no outlet. Not much for a DC to gameplan for. Maybe this will get better as the QB and offense gel. maybe Chaney won’t be so predictable. I sure hope so.

When the tight ends are able to get involved in the passing game the offense will click. Would be a shame to waste their receiving talents to be required to stay in and help the OL all year.

I expected to see some TE magic under Chaney. Unfortunately, so far they look woefully underutilized, just like last year under Schotty. =(
