Nothing good will come of this… at least not for me.
Georgia has been selected to return to the Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game in four years.
The Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game decided to pair Georgia and Virginia for one of its opening games in 2020, which will take place on Monday, Sept. 7, 2020 at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
Ah, well, it’s been a while since my loyalties were divided.
I guess BM has decided to make screwing over the season ticket holders a regular thing now.

Do you have some loyalty to the Cavs, Senator? Do you, like me, hail from the Commonwealth?

Therewith, the explanation. I had no idea. I was accepted there but in the wisdom of an 18 year old rock and roller who thought I was smarter than my parents, instead went to VCU to study music at the state’s best public university for music. Oops. Thus, I missed 4 bucolic years of fall afternoons at Scott Stadium, except the occasional appointment as a visitor with the appropriate amount of Jim Beam in tow. Any my HS sweetheart on my arm. Ahh………autumn

I was giddy watching us beat UNC this year. Also had no problem talking shit to my grad school classmates for one game. Not that hard to do senator.

I’m delighted. That, in all likelihood, puts us on the 8 p.m. ABC slot. Plus, it gives us the chance to sit back on Saturday and watch all the other games on opening weekend.

No offense, but how does Virginia get into a prime time slot like this?
How many teams had to turn it down before they got stuck with Virginia?

Just be glad the opponent isn’t FSU or Louisville.

One thing for certain about that date.
Greyson Lambert will not be there, and there will be no questions about him starting for either.
Hugh Freeze and Chad Kelly have taken note of the Dawg defense. The one giving up over 20 points per game through 3 games. The one with more odd man alignments.
You know what they say about the defense.
“Defense travels”.
We will find out Saturday at brunch time. Now we can compare the Pruitt vs Smart defenses.
They have “traveled twice”. Can the smart dawgs do it again.
And can the offense take advantage of the turnovers the defense is giving them.

Personally, I like it. UVA doesn’t scare me, so it’s a chance to win big with everyone in the country watching. Playing on a Monday will be weird, though. Better schedule a cupcake for Week 2, with a short week to prepare.

Nah, we’ll probably get Carolina slated in there after they opened up on a Thursday.

Native Virginian here. I don’t see how UVA is going to sell 30,000 tickets unless they are really, really, good by then.

The best thing about the article is the McGarrity refused to confirm the game. What a deekhead.

Monday night in a prime slot is good for UGA football (Thursday would have been better for time off before next game) but Virginia is a meh opponent. This is weak sauce from the ChikFilA and UGA group. Bama plays USC and FSU, our idea of getting into the act is UNC and UVA? It says things about UGA that you don’t won’t to hear. What the heck happened to Clemson if they wanted to stay in the region and SEC for crowd travel reasons. Even Va Tech would be more exciting. Would rather have turned this one down, but then I don’t expect me and McFrugal to see anything the same way. Exciting headline when I saw we were doing the CFA again, but major let down when I saw the opponent.

These two put together some pretty good Peach Bowls, right? Maybe we’ll get another thriller with the Dawgs coming out with a win.

I hope it’s not a thriller. We faced them in the Peach Bowl when we were coming off of fairly disappointing seasons and they were runners up in the ACC. We should have turned the invitation down, Virginia isn’t going to be a good program in 4 years and we should be or we should be firing Kirby about then.

Sure would be nice if Butts-Mehre tried to put together a home-and-home instead… maybe something against a power 5 team with the road game in the even year and the return game in the odd year so I’m not stuck looking at South Carolina and App State as the two best reasons to buy season tickets…

That’d be nice but I think the intention is to prevent other schools (IE: Alabama or Auburn) from coming in to Atlanta and getting the exposure to recruits in the Atlanta market, so a home and home is less effective than a neutral site game in that regard.
Plus $.

No disrespect to alumni of UVA, but not excited about that matchup. Saw1995, 1998, and 2000 and that was enough, especially 1995.

I really hate this if it is true. What in the world do we have to gain by playing Virginia? Couldn’t we at least get Clemson or Louisville?

So far I’m the only commenter old enough to remember our homecoming game in 1979, when we lost to UVA 31-0. I happened to be in a UGA law school class at the time where there were a lot of rich kids (children of big Atlanta law firm attorneys) who had attended UVA as undergrads. Not a good day.

I remember it. 1979 was my first year as a UGA law school alum, so I am older than you.

That’s no typo, BTW. The year before Herschel and the national title we lost to VIRGINIA at HOMECOMING 31-0.

I went to the South Carolina game that year. It was my first UGA home game.

I was at both of those losses, and the loss to Wake Forest to start the year. We did follow up the stinker to UVa by routing the Gators, who were gloriously winless that year. And then came 1980.

I hope the Senator will show up wearing a Musketeer hat with a plume and a cape for this game. He would look like a taller version of Jim Harbaugh’s least favorite gremlin, Freddy P Soft.
Seriously, though (and you know how I hate to be serious) all you ACC boys who had enough sense to come home for law school know how much better Athens is than any of those ACC places, Charlottesville included. You don’t have to renounce your undergrad school; sure, you have good memories, made friends, had experiences. But, if you didn’t step up your game after you got to Athens, that’s on you. When you were a child of 18, you thought as a child, about childish things. When you were a grown ass man of 25, you were a Bulldog.
