“He’s our coach and he’ll be our coach for a long, long time.”

A heady mix for Jay Jacobs:  another subpar year for Auburn football, Jimmy Sexton and a possible $13,795,000 in payments the school’s athletics department would be responsible for if the Gus Bus is shitcanned after this season.

And that’s before you get to what Jacobs will have to shell out to sign the next savior.

Auburn’s schedule is brutal. I think we would be 1 and 2 at this point as well, facing LSU, Ole Miss, Bama, Arky in the future. That is a tough assignment for anyone; I don’t envy the ones making decisions down there.

    ALL IN, huh AU? BWHAHAHAHAHA…

It is difficult to say anything positive about Greg McGoofy, but wow Jay may be the loser.

So, the tales of the Yella Wood jet being in Louisville Sunday are not true?
Despite the addition of a motorcycle ramp to the plane?

  5. Aren’t there people that argue giving money to players will bankrupt the sport? Seems to me Jimmy Sexton is more of a threat to do that than any players.

Well if you have to buy out a staff like this and then buy out all the players that transfer, who am I kinding the players would probably be forced to pay back any monies given to them, never mind.

These ADs are getting what they deserve. I think the payouts will be a fraction. Of what happens when many of the WDE faithful have had enough and shut their check books. I see 5 wins this year and it’s not like they don’t have talent. I’d take their DL personnel minus Garner. I can’t figure out for the life of me why they suck. Didn’t SOS call him the greatest coach? He also got Bo’s approval. Heh. My hope is they give him a lifetime contract to show they mean business. They probably already feel that way.

AU, GTU, UT all have “genius” coaches, I hope all 3 stay for a long, long time. lol

I guess 13 million bucks just doesn’t buy as much elite coaching as it used to. Sic transit Malzahn.

Couldn’t happen to a better school

Disclaimer…you’re all gonna hate who made this observation, but I thought it was pretty good. So first the comment: In response to a caller’s lament about MAC schools not being able to keep good coaches as the best move up and out to P5 schools, this experienced coach noted that AD’s should stop worrying about paying top dollar for the current HC and put more emphasis into finding and developing the next coach to be better. I like that sentiment.

It was Lou Holtz who said it yesterday on College XM Radio.

I think they’re still paying Chizik and his staff, so what’s an extra 13.75 Mil at this point? It’s like that’s their motto.

It ceases to amaze me the amounts of these buyouts. They are unnecessary after the initial contract and are just getting ridiculous. Based on what I’m hearing in section 132 at the stadium, an awful lot of folks are getting very tired of the McGoofy scheduling, donation and ticket price gouging model. Several sold their season tickets via stub hub. The financial tipping point is upon us with 6 home games, increased donations despite less home games and ridiculously priced “Kickoff” games. There were numerous empty seats for Nichols and numerous freebie tickets being offered. The scalpers had to have taken a bath. Outside of Tenn. there will be a lot of empty seats.
Pay the coaches upfront and renew based on performance with shorter buyouts. And fire McGoofy. He is helping our pocketbook short term but killing our long term athletic programs!

Cool, I think we have a winning record against Gus, so keep him forever and let them wallow in misery.
