Wednesday morning buffet

Eat, eat…

  • “The top ten most talented teams in the country last year were Alabama, Ohio State, USC, Notre Dame, Florida State, LSU, Auburn, Georgia, Texas, and Michigan.”
  • You know the old joke about someone being so incompetent he could screw up a one-car funeral?  That would be Rutgers’ AD.
  • According to his dad, Pennsylvania’s D’Andre Swift was really impressed by the G-Day crowd:  “To be able to walk into the stadium and be a part of it and walk down and watch the guys coming through the ‘DawgWalk’ and see all the tradition that Georgia has was just remarkable. I’ve never seen how a town shuts down for a game. That city is a college football town, and everybody embraces that tradition and the football program fully. That, to me, was just remarkable about Georgia in every way.”  If you were there, take a bow.
  • The ACC is already trying to figure out what to do if Clemson, FSU and Louisville all wind up 11-1.
  • Good point in this post — if Missouri is an improved team in the SEC East, don’t forget that Florida and Tennessee both have yet to play the Tigers.
  • Hugh Freeze notes one difference between Kirby Smart’s defenses at Alabama and Georgia:  “He’s playing a lot more odd front. I’m sure he’s adjusting to what he thinks is best for his team. It’s been different from what we expect from them, but the results are well for him.”
  • Cool game management, Clay Helton.  You’re lucky Stanford didn’t have a two-point trick play up its sleeve.

Rumors are swirling the USC is about to implode and several of those GA linemen that they snagged in the last 2 years want to come home.

Price is said to have been in some sort of altercation with a staff member.

I’d put the chances of Clemson, FSU, and Louisville all going 11-1 at around 0.001%.

So Tennessee is the only SEC East team that didn’t have a negative differential talent/results last year? Wow.

Does the stat guy account for roster losses? Either injury or transfers? Both?

Says a lot about how QB play can be a multiplier either way.

Saw that USC beat writer tweeted that EJ Price is transferring due to homesickness. Would that be to UGA? Please say yes…

What on earth was Clay Helton thinking giving Tee Martin the OC job when he had never been an OC before at any level? Really dumb move and it’s burning him bad right now.

But… but… all I keep hearing is how CMR left the cupboard bare.

The cupboard wasn’t bare, but the shelf labeled “Special Teams” was sparsely stocked and the shelf labeled “Offensive Linemen” was decimated…it took a transfer from RI to put together a sub-par lineup.
Yes the “Skilled Positions” shelf was stacked.

The place kicker is a definite bust so far, but Blankenship was a legit recruit, some just don’t work out. But the OL was far from decimated. Truth is, this OL is very much what we have been working with for several years. I have always felt we needed to change our OL recruiting to more of a mid-west approach and less from the southeast, but we returned starters and players who had experience and seem to be getting even less from them. I don’t know why, didn’t expect this level of fall off. The questions to Kirby from the media about personnel or blocking scheme changes seem legit to me.

Oh, look. Pesky facts which are actually facts. Just because someone’s scheme is different doesn’t mean the cupboard is bare. Thanks, Mac.

Remind me again of how many times we won the SEC the past 10 years with that not so bare cupboard.

That’s funny, I must have missed that. And I surely don’t recall us playing Notre Dame in the 2012 BCS title game. But if you say we won the conference in 2011 and 2012 then I’ll take your word for it.

Not sure if it is an ADD issue, or just reading comprehension problem but the discussion was OL performance not SEC titles, which may, or may not be the difference in winning titles. My point was the OL inherited was not decimated by any measure relative to the ones the past few years. Simply put, we are getting less from many of the same guys, or those of similar skills. That doesn’t say we were great (we were not) in the past several years and this is a fall off, it says we are worse so far this season and actually had reason to expect some improvement. There must be a reason, I don’t know what it is but we questioning the pathetic start from that group damn sure deserves some answers. It isn’t a shot at any member of the staff but there should be accountability….it is the one area which looked like it could not go down. Keep your personal agenda/obsession from getting in the way of a discussion that isn’t related, some here have moved along.

I only speak for myself, but hear no Kirby bashing. Everyone is hoping for the best, at least everyone I talk to. Some are waiting to see before passinng judgement on him…but hoping he kills it.

I hear ya man. It just seems to me that a handful of posters on here is just waiting on the slightest opportunity to harp on Kirby about something because of their love for Richt. Nothing wrong with having love for Richt, but bashing Kirby is not gonna bring him back. All I’m saying is let’s give Kirby time to see what he can do before coming to the conclusion that he was a bad hire 3 games into his tenure.

It’s just the same few, but they are persistent. I liked CMR, but I thought it was time for change for both parties. I’m holding out judgement on the new staff. But man, there are some bitter dudes on here over the change.

Exactly. I don’t know if Kirby will ultimately be successful or not, but I’m at least willing to let the season play out before I start drawing conclusions on him.
