Mark Richt has lost control over Les Miles’ contract.

National championships aren’t worth what they used to be, at least not if you’re coaching in Nick Saban’s neighborhood.

There’s only one reason to fire a coach in September, and that’s to beat the competition to the HOT NAME.

It’s always a good time to be Jimmy Sexton.

UPDATE:  If this doesn’t describe college football circa 2016, I don’t know what does.

Yeah, wouldn’t it be terrible if somehow LSU came back to win the West this season? Think of the children!

You mean they aren’t going to go for the hot assistant coach? Not really thrilled to see Herman become the LSU coach.

If Cougar High gets an invite to the Big XII, it’s all over but the crying for Red Stick. Herman gets a $5M bonus if Houston joins a P5 Conference.

I was very vocal about wanting Herman in Athens, following the Right Reverend’s ouster, and took a while to become okay with the Kirby hire. I’m on board now, because it’s a Dawg for Life situation, but he wasn’t my first pick.

Wow — I knew Miles was on thin ice…but I didn’t expect this until at least late November.

Then again, the AD down there (Alleva) was the the AD at Duke during the lacrosse scandal, in which he rushed to judgement and suspended the program with sketchy at best evidence at hand (oh, and fired the coach to boot), so it’s no surprise that he has a bit of a itchy trigger finger.

Well, there was the whole fiasco with was he or wasn’t he getting fired at the end of last year.. definitely don’t get the timing on this. It must be the boosters in his ear.

Indeed. I read/heard from multiple sources that he was to be fired, as they had Jimbo Fisher lined up as the replacement. But, in the end, the money was too much to overcome (Miles’ buyout, Fisher’s buyout at FSU, and Fisher’s salary), so they decided to, ahem…continue to remain loyal to Miles and let him coach another year.

Darn. We could’ve gotten a guy who had HC experience and a national title to his name.

And if UGA had not fired Richt last November we’d be knee deep in hotseat talk right now. If Miles can be fired, why not Richt the AJC guys would be asking. Maybe we can get through this season before it starts again. The hotseat talk had to hurt recruiting.

I think the lack of not winning anything of significance probably did more to hurt recruiting than some blogosphere hot seat talk.

    • KS basically kept MRs top 10 class together. Enough with the fans hurting recruiting crap. Yeah. I’m sure this dismal OL would have won a natty under Richt if we had just given him a lifetime contract four years ago. Sorry but your hero swung and missed on the OL recruiting and often didn’t even seem to try. He put all his eggs in the gasmask bong guy and missed out.

Maybe if Kirby had gone to the ACC and played three cupcakes he’d be even with your man crush.

Isn’t Miles due something like $16mil? That can’t be right.

I just read on the Times-Picayune website that Miles’ buyout is $10 million.

Isn’t the state of Louisiana dead broke? So broke that they had to close some public schools? But they are going to pay $10 Mil to get rid of a HC that won them a natty and played for one as recently as 5 years ago? What a bunch of morons!!

Yep, that’s really coming right out of the state government coffers. Just like the 30 plus million for our new IPF came straight from the Gold Dome’s massive surplus.

I guess it’s the richest LSU boosters who personally come up with the 10 mil; but it still seems morally wrong to me, that people with that much money will waste it, just so they can have a new football coach.

Not really. They didn’t fire a successful coach in the middle of the season. He just quit when he realized he didn’t have it anymore, plus a very depleted roster.

Do you all believe Tom Herman would take the LSU job? I remember hearing somewhere (can’t recall) that Texas was his dream job, so I’m wondering will he wait to see how the season shakes out with Charlie Strong?

I had the good fortune to get to know many of the heroes of my generation, and spent many hours around Arnold Palmer both on the golf course, and in business/social situations. He was the best of the superstars, and it wasn’t even close. To have someone like you attempt to denigrate his legacy at a time like this is disgusting. We need more of the “good guys” like Arnie, fewer of your type.

Shit, Auburn is scared it needs to Fire Gus really soon so it can get in line for Briles.

Alleva probably took a page from McGarity, hoping Auburn beat their employers. McGarity left Auburn disappointed . Alleva probably called the replay booth pleading for the replay refs to overturn the call!

He will be back soon. I am guessing that he will be a HC in the B1G soon on the condition that Cam Cameron is not allowed within 100 miles of the team.

    LSU bloggers on Briles:

    “human garbage”
“I’m done if they hire him”
“There are some real garbage-ass LSU fans out there knighting for Art Briles, and y’all should be ashamed.”

Doesn’t mean it won’t happen, but hiring the man splits your community right down the middle at best. Think Penn State aftermath, except you’re buying it.

Hmm.. Les has a MNC. He played for another. I can totally understand if they gave him the ultimatum of “Fire Cam Cameron of your ass is gone”. Cam has turned their offense into an abortion being performed in a burning dumpster that is about to be hit by a train. Hell, their offense is almost as bad as ours (I keed, I keed). Did the AD really think that Les was the problem? The AD basically ran off John Chavis by threatening Les. Les wasn’t the problem.

    • I know a lot of LSU people who absolutely believe the offensive problems are the Mad Hatter. They say every play call had to run through Miles, and Les wanted to run the ball, run the ball and run the ball some more.

Of course, Cameron has done a terrible job of developing QBs. CMR giftwrapped Mett for him, so Cameron looked really smart with a competent QB.

My question to that would be if it is a legit claim. I hear completely wrong made up bullshit from Georgia fans on this board all of the time. Being committed to running the ball is completely different from the inability to recruit and develop a QB that is capable of producing at even a mediocre level.

They kept recruiting 3-star “dual threat” QBs. That is a euphemism for “athlete who can’t throw worth a shit”. I am just amazed at how they were unable to pull in quality QBs out of Texas.
