Feel the Georgia Tech fan base’s enthusiasm.
There are about 1,500 tickets remaining for the Nov. 26 home game against Georgia Tech, according to Tim Cearley, who heads up Georgia’s ticket operations. The Georgia Tech tickets go for $95 each.
They are available because Georgia Tech returned some 2,000 tickets from its allotment for the game.
Nice effort, rivals. They oughta make a new rule for this series by requiring the home team in the next game to surrender an equal number of seats from every returned ticket as the visitor. We could use those extra seats at BDS.
And before I get some smug comeback from a Tech fan, there’s no excuse for not selling out a conference game in Sanford Stadium, even if it’s due to the visitor’s returned tickets. So get on that, Dawg fans. That being said, even a few seats short, there will still be well more than twice as many fans watching Vandy in Athens as there were in Atlanta a few short weeks ago (41,916).

No one is mentioning the fact that the demographics of the Yech student body is increasingly made up of people who are from countries where football is soccer.

It has officially gotten to the point where the tech game is a lose-lose proposition for us. They can’t even sell their allocation of tickets that are the same price as the tickets allocated to us.
Don’t take this as “end the series,” but the only thing in it for us now is to send the Drought to the ash heap of college football history.

I don’t want to drop them, but when we win, no one including a lot of fans cares. When we lose, everyone rushes to slam us. It’s a true “no win” for us … almost like playing Georgia Southern.

Good point. Maybe we should play them every 3 or 4 years instead of every year and pick up Clemson or a North Carolina school for some home and home series. North Carolina would be a much nicer place to visit than CMR Stadium.

His contract runs through 2020. I think he is under 3 mil per year. I can’t see Tech taking the 12 million hit over the next 4 years. I hope they keep him. One of the few in state rivals in the southeast where we rarely go head to head for recruits.

The secondary market prices for UGA tickets have continued to decline over the past several years even for really good seats and/or good opponents. I wonder how much of the decline is attributed to a shitty home schedule vs. less fan interest or the team’s lackluster performance on the field. After the huge G-Day turnout, I expected ticket resale prices to be decent, but they’re far worse than last year, which was down from the 2014 season. Not a good scenario to be increasing ticket prices and donation requirements heading into next year.

This was the first time I can ever recall there being extra tickets put on sale for the WCLOP. It’s usually sold out to season ticketholders, so that tells something about demand for the secondary market.

Good point CB, forgot about that. When I was in school, the student tickets were in such demand that a lottery was needed and many kids went without them. Apparently, the FL tickets put on sale were ones the students didn’t buy, which is crazy. They even have a Fall break that coincides with the game whereas we had classes when I was in school (even though many of us didn’t go to class on Friday).

I’ve been buying single-game tickets on the secondary market since 2002, including some years in which I ended up buying tickets to every home game individually. Over 90% of the tickets I’ve bought have been in the 100 level.
With that in mind, I’ve tracked ticket prices very closely over the years, and some strong trends have emerged. The short version is that I believe the ticket-price bubble has finally burst, with the intense market pressure of the Alabama game last year being the straw that broke the camel’s back. This has been exacerbated by Georgia’s newly terrible home schedule every other year (like next year).
I strongly suspect that we’ll continue to see ticket demand decrease for Georgia games — and nearly all games everywhere — over the next several years. In fact, based on the noted decline in student interest in Georgia football games (a phenomenon I just can’t wrap my head around), the whole college football landscape may be poised to shift dramatically within the next couple of decades.
