Kirby be Tripp’n, y’all.
Georgia will use the bye week to experiment with three position changes, head coach Kirby Smart announced on Tuesday.
Tae Crowder, a redshirt freshman tailback who has not played yet this season, will try inside linebacker.
“We’ve got some depth issues there,” Smart said.
Sophomore Michael Barnett, a defensive lineman who has yet to play this season, will try offensive line. Barnett will begin at tackle, and Smart indicated it was more about seeing if Barnett’s long-term future could be there.
Junior Shakenneth Williams, who has yet to catch a pass at receiver this season, will move to defensive back, at least temporarily.
Hey, if you can’t use the bye week before the Florida game to experiment, then when can you? Just ask the last head coach before Kirby about that.

If they haven’t touched the field at their old positions they won’t touch the field in their new positions this season. Nothing wrong with another position coach looking at them in drills.

Is Gilliard out for the Florida gam? I saw him leave the field injured againdt Vandy. They put the tent up around him. If he is out they are going to shuffle the libe anyway.

I tell you for Kirby, to have been the answer to all of Richt’s way of running the team, he sure is checking all the CMR boxes. Bad Special teams – Check Not hiring great assistants – Check. Moving players around so they never are useful – Check. Trying for balance when none is needed – Check. Hell we’ve just hired a younger Mark Richt. I hope he has as good a first five years as the old one. Not looking too good in the first year but hey maybe the team rallies like they always seemed to do for Mark and we can check that box.

We may have..won’t know for another 2-3 years…1st 5 years of Richt was damn good…last 10, not as much, although I think the SEC landscape changed drastically over those 20. Uphill vs the West for sure now, for the entire East.

Yep. I expect a good bit of turnover after the season. These guys plus a few more could transfer, and I count at least 3 redshirt jrs. that could ” choose” to participate in senior day. The big question is; will Ramsey stay for his final year, or opt to be a grad transfer for playing time somewhere? If he leaves, there will only be one QB with any playing time on the roster.

I’ll be surprised if Ramsey transfers, even after he graduates. It appears to me that he’s shrugged off the fact that he can’t cut it in the QB competition. Hell, it doesn’t even look like he’s gonna get any playing time at punter either. Maybe he’s just accepted his fate and is content with just being on the team. I don’t know him and I have nothing against him, but he must be a seriously laid back dude.

I think I’m willing to accept that these young men might actually have the character that would allow them to own the “whatever I can do to make us better”. The coaches always say they go after high character kids, maybe it’s true sometimes. It would be truly season saving if we wind up with a talented blind side tackle.

I get your point – but reality is reality. The odds of an elite left tackle being buried on your 4th string DL are infinitely small. The odds of a 4th strong WR overtaking multiple guys ahead of him to win a DB spot from guys who have been playing DB all this time, again very small. These are moves that to me would tell these guys that if you want playing time, you’re gonna need to go elsewhere, whether that is the intended message or not.
Please note I’m not saying any of this as a criticism of the coaches or the players involved. Just calling a spade a spade.

Let me drop a name on you from the past. Chris Terry class of 1998. He was a defensive lineman Donnan switched to offensive tackle in 1997 and he was great. Actually had an NFL career at OT. You never know.

I am sure we will see McKenzie start at QB, and we run the spread offense.
Just wondering who on the Gator defense makes player of the week and records 20+ tackles, half behind the line of scrimmage on the running backs.

Anybody see where we are adding Jake Skole as a walk-on DB in Jan? He was a 2010 recruit and great athlete that signed with Tech to play football and baseball, but ended up going pro after high school. He was recruited by us and FSU as a preferred walk-on. Maybe at the least he can be a solid special teamer.
