Your weekly non-Dawg… er, no Dawg game day post, 10/22 edition

Focus, people.  There’s still plenty of college football being played today.

#22North Carolina

Virginia

3:00 PM

You may not care, but my other alma mater is playing today.  Still hard to get a handle on North Carolina, which for now represents Georgia’s sole quality 2016 win.

TCU

#12West Virginia

3:30 PM

West Virginia’s ranked twelfth?  How did that happen?

#6Texas A&M

#1Alabama

3:30 PM

The SEC West is running out of time to bring the Tide back to earth.

#17Arkansas

#21Auburn

6:00 PM

This looks to be a good gauge of where both teams stand now.

Mississippi State

Kentucky

7:30 PM

Mississippi State gets a chance to prove it’s worthy of the SEC West.

Tennessee State

Vanderbilt

7:30 PM

Is there such a thing as a trap game for the Commodores?

#16Oklahoma

Texas Tech

8:00 PM

What do I predict?  Scoring.  Lots of scoring.

#23Ole Miss

#25LSU

9:00 PM

I guess we’ll find out what kind of job Coach O is doing.

You left out Texas-Kansas State? My wife won’t be pleased. Also, go Cubbies!

Your other alma mater. I guess that helps explain your comment earlier in the week about a UVA win over UGA that “rekindled” your love of college football. I was intrigued by that post.

Probably 1979. We lost to Clemson, UVA, and Wake Forest (remember Makovic’s Meatballs?)

Vince Dooley wins Coach of the Year. In the ACC.

Yeah, he was a pretty literal dude. He was the “turd in the punch bowl” when he coached Texas. Just didn’t fit in at all.

Good friend of mine, and no, John wasn’t ever going to wear jeans and boots at the BBQ, or sit around the campfire with the boys. But they liked him fine for a while they always do until things hit a rough patch.. He was coach of the year in the ACC, Big 10, and Big 12 in a 15 year period.

The 1979 team nearly won the SEC also!!! Think we were one game short of running the table in the SEC, but only beat one team out of Conf. Odd season!!

Went 5-1 with a loss to Auburn (a game they led at the half, I think, before being destroyed in the second). It forced a change in the rule for the Sugar Bowl representative. At the time, Georgia would have gone ahead of undefeated Alabama, because in the event of a tie for the conference championship, the team furthest removed from their last appearance was selected.

Not that it matters, but did anybody see the Oregon v. Cal game last night. Not only exciting, but I’m stunned the 2 point play by Cal late in the game was not reviewed or contested. I’m convinced there were only 6 men on the LOS. Can’t find anything about it in the news this morning, and no mention by the broadcasters. Just curious.

I honestly don’t know who to pull for in the Bama/TAMU game, but I plan to watch it. Kind of pathetic that at this early point in the season that whatever happens in that game won’t mean shit for us in any scenario. It’s like somebody sprayed shit mist all over this offweek.

I wonder, there’s a tendency when people are making judgements of others more benefit of the doubt does come into play when the players are highly skilled. The better one performs, the less critical people are. I can see that a good team can get breaks. If there’s sloppiness in technique all over the place, one tends to think “this and that here and there, I can’t let it all go, I’ve got to call something”.

    First quarter observation re Vanderbilt:

Turns out that Vandy’s defense isn’t quite as good when the opposing offense decides NOT to run up-the-middle, towards their All American LB, every other play.

        Good point….except not really.

Yeah, he was a real nobody before last Saturday. First team All SEC selection last year, 3rd team All American last year, preseason nominee for all major defensive awards this year. Vanderbilt’s best player by far. Not the guy you want to challenge repeatedly, either before and after he proved it again in Athens.
