Give Kirby credit for not buying into the “Jim Chaney moving into the booth changed everything” narrative as a means of explaining Georgia’s best offensive output since the season opener.
Which isn’t to say it might not have helped, but going from playing Florida’s defense to Kentucky’s might have mattered more.
Auburn’s fifth in the conference in total defense. If the offensive resurgence continues against the Tigers, then we’ll have something to point at.

I think that is exactly right. I think Eason has got to the point where they feel like he knows enough to not get quizzed about what he saw when got to the line of scrimmage every time a drive failed. Palmer was fairly effusive about Eason’s poise and working knowledge of a pro style offense. Clearly he still overthrows/underthrows some, but with certain people (IN18) he has a connection.

As with most things, it is a combination of many factors. I actually believe that Eason is grasping the offense and Chaney is learning how much he can implement.
Chubb and Sony have taken leadership which is something that has been missing in past years. Hopefully it is a part of culture change.
Eason still needs to work on foot work which as I have posted in the past, he spent most of his time in High School out of the shotgun so it is not surprising. Neuheisel, Palmer and others have commented on his footwork, I may not always trust them but throwing mechanics is something they know.

So hard the eye roll. Murray, Mitchel, Connolly, Andrews…the list goes on where we’ve had team leaders every year. How about “It’s nice to see THIS team have some leaders step up”?

No, we don’t know for sure but we know his presence on the sideline inspired no one to greater heights. Personally, I don’t see how that could ever not be an advantage for the guy calling the next moves that might work. Who knows, maybe Jacob Eason likes to feel like he is capable of evaluating his own performance and letting someone who can see things he cannot because he has an aerial view. Spurrier is the only play caller I have seen who truly seemed to see all the field action from ground level. It’s not that we bated a thousand on making great play calls, but we are 1-0 with Big Jim ten stories above the fray.

Bobby Petrino is phenomenal play caller from the sideline. Kiffin too. But yeah, for the most part I prefer the box.

Not sure being in the press box was the solution, but I am happy when what looked to me to be an adaptation to what Kentucky was doing took place. Start out gashing them with runs but they adapted and instead of being stubborn with the run up the middle, they moved to three wide and let the skinny kid throw some. Earlier season it would have just been more up the middle runs despite getting stuffed. Once Eason threw a few, the runs came back again. If he adapts better in the press box, please leave him there. I liked the adjustments for once.

In my eye, the play calling was more varied, much like the Tennessee game. Whatever helped, I hope they keep doing it.

In the second half…we started throwing on first down…when you show you will sling it at any time, on any down, from any place on the field, you get the box shaken and unsteady. I think most of the success can be put on the relative weakness of the KY defensive front…but it is defiantly progress and gives hope that Georgia will win at least a few more.
I think a re-match with Tennessee would be a great bowl game.

I actually think Chaney called a really good game. 2 Chubb fumbles hurt. A couple of dropped passes. I think we were really close to scoring 40.
Whether that was a product of being in the booth or of KY not being great defensively, who knows. Let’s see how Saturday goes.

Ah…and McKenzie’s mishandled punt gave them an easy 7…and his reversal after making a first down, probably cost 4. But KY had their turnovers too…that’s just football. What AIN’T football is reviewing a review because Mooseburger is slobbering about it.

It was not the same play but why did they not penalize the KY right tackle for false start? It was evident and I’m sure they saw it on the replay. They hosed us for too many men on the field after a replay in the UT game. There really is such a thing as PWG !

Moving to soon is generally not reviewable but when we got hit for too many men on the field (which had zero impact on the play) I thought they made the point that other violations were fair game during the review. Didn’t sound right but they dang sure nailed us. And when will we ever shake Al Ford? If I am going to get screwed regularly, I would rather have some variety. Like a bad dream stalking you, they have to have more crews and mix them around for different games/teams. Given his history, we should be able to blackball his crew.

There was a replay on the play I’m talking about-maybe the spot was reviewed, but even Palmer pointed out the guy moved early. We have been hosed by everyone they have- Matt Moore, Hubert Owens, Steve Shaw, and especially Penn effing Wagers! That new clown even got us-I cant remember his name Steve or David something but he played qb at Bama years ago.

Don’t have an orgasm y’all. It was Kentucky. While I feel better we need to do it versus Carl Lawson and company to make me believe we have made real progress. I think Chubb is trying too hard to make dynamite happen a few firecrackers would be better. He had 2 fumbles over exerting and 2 huge losses reversing fields rather than taking a yard and moving on. Nick is great, but we need him playing within himself. Just my opinion. Butler has had a huge impact on Blankenship. Great move there!!

Not to be a contrarian, but I just don’t see greatness from Chubb at this point in his career. Not sure if he has lost a step or 5 since his injury, or if he is just frustrated with the OL play, or if he has not bought into the new staff. Whatever the reason, the kid is not the same RB that dazzled and amazed us prior to Tennessee 2015. Sony is clearly running the ball better this season.

Ok, it’s bad enough when everyone else dawgrades our opponents. WE shouldn’t be doing that ourselves. We went into what was a tough environment against the #1 team in the East and won. No reason to dawgrade UK. They had everything to play for and all we are playing for is bowl eligibility. We took it to them and did what we had to do to pull out a win. All I heard all week was how we basically had little to no chance. Hell, only Lil Wayne picked us on Gameday, and only the GPOOE picked us on SEC Nation. So let’s not act like it was “only Kentucky” when they were nearly universally picked to beat us.

We may have been guilty of piling on a bit with CKS and CJC the last few weeks, but CKS’ imperial attitude didn’t earn him a lot of grace with the fans.
This week we at least looked as good as the 2015 Dawgs, and Chaney’s playcalling, if still inscrutable at times, appears to be improving.
Regardless of the OL, Chubb is not himself. He is iffy in pass protection as well, although he had one great block last night I remember.. Hate to see it, hate to type it.
We may want to abandon pass plays of more than 35 – 40 yards for the rest of the year. Stll enough space to stretch the field a bit but let Eason get used to the mid- range passing timing and work up to it. Yes, he has completed a couple of bombs, but he’s missed on an awful lot, and they are killing drives.
Also agree with another commenter on another thread here – let Eason run more shotgun / HUNH. He obviously thrives with it.

I vaguely remember this tune from years before. “Seeking balance…” Players making stupid mistakes when things are going well. An OC being defended because it’s the “execution, not the play call”.
So maybe we have all the pieces in place like several years ago, and Chaney and this young group gel and pull it together in a couple of years. Might be good enough to get to the SECCG like that. Let’s hope Kirby, Chaney, Eason and Ridley have a better play ready from the 1 yard line with no time left this go around. If they do, then boy, the pain for this group to learn and gel will really have been all worth it.
Maybe no pool time in August really will be the difference.

Yes it was only Kentucky, which as stated is actually not bad this year.
We need to get over this we are just so great idea and realize where this team is. Last year we won 10 games, but those were vs some VERY bad competition and a remarkably weak schedule, where we bear a SC team that was so bad Spurrier quit mid-season, a Missouri team with a somehow worse offense than us, the worst auburn team in the last 5+ years, a GT team who won a whole 3 games, and 3 cupcakes.
