Defeating Auburn would help Georgia avoid its first winless season at home against Southeastern Conference opposition since 1962, when the Bulldogs tied Kentucky (7-7) and were thumped by Georgia Tech (37-6). They have not lost all of their home league games since 1957, when they played only two and fell to Vanderbilt (9-6) and Alabama (14-13).
This is already the deepest Georgia has gone into a season without defeating a Bowl Subdivision foe at home since 1962.
The Bulldogs are 5-4 overall, having won true league road games against Missouri, South Carolina and Kentucky but also losing badly at Ole Miss. They are 1-1 in neutral-site contests, opening with a victory over North Carolina in Atlanta and losing their annual matchup with Florida in Jacksonville.
You know, that’s not easy to do.

Having only three home games in conference makes that stat a bit less awful, but then you remember one of the previous two games was Vandy and it hurts all the same.

It’s probably just me, but I find that first paragraph confusing. If we lose to Auburn this weekend, will it be our first time losing all home SEC games since ’62 or ’57?

I think there’s a difference between winless and losing them all when you consider games that used to end in ties.

I sure hope we win tomorrow. If for no other reason than to have ‘statisticians’ STFU with these obscure tidbits of history. They’d be pulling their hair out if we fought back and finished the season 9-4.

It seems that we’re big underdogs every ten years, but we pull off an improbable win. Parallels to 1996: new coach, highly ranked Auburn team, underperforming UGA team, great UGA running back who had fumble problems against KY. I’m feeling better about tomorrow.

In 1970 (I think) a 5-5 Georgia team coached by VD beat a highly favored Auburn team at Auburn playing a LB at QB. No joke! Let’s hope for a similar upset.

Sad to hear about the death of Bill Stanfill. A great Cairo High School Syrupmaker. A great Dawg. He bought a lot of fun and excitement to UGA football. I am glad he lived during my life time. GOD blessed him with football talents and he did not waste them. He brought blessings to the history of UGA football.

I knew a guy as a freshman whose HS basketball played against Cairo’s when Stanfill was on the team. He said he wasn’t sure how good a basketball player Stanfill was, but when he drove to the basket everybody got out of his way! Who wouldn’t have?

I’ve had a hectic week and haven’t been able to keep up, but has anyone mentioned this is the 30th anniversary of “between the hoses”. Just wondering.

I was there. Close to the coldest damn football game for as far south as the Barn is I’ve ever been to.

I was also at that game and remembering how I couldn’t believe they would turn fire hoses on the fans. the fans in the endzone were able to jump on the field rather easily. It sure doesn’t seem like it’s been 30 years. We won that night and will do so again tomorrow. GO DAWGS!!

I was a college student back then, but not at the game. I remember the great quote afterwards….”If you can’t beat’em, hose’em”. I hope we pull off another huge upset tomorrow!
