Before you dismiss this suggestion entirely out of hand (rivalry game!), remember that Nick Saban’s coached in the NFL before.

Not if they want to be able to choose where they play the Semi Final…not a chance.
I’d rather club Auburn and rest the starters a week later.
I see what you did there.
Admittedly that’s a tough choice for me…club Auburn like a baby seal and then rest against Fla/Tenn (I’ll assume it will be UT considering Florida’s remaining schedule) or vice versa…
That thinking is everything I was afraid of with the playoffs — rivalry, regular season games mean less than they used to if Alabama considers doing that. I don’t think any ‘Bane or Auburn fans would ever want to not try to win the Iron Bowl, but it is conceivable for a school/coaching staff/conference to look at the postseason prestige and money as being as important.
‘Bama, not Bane. Sorry
And yet there are those who still want to expand to 8 teams. I don’t think Bama would do this but even the thought or mention of this increases with bracket expansion. I like 4 and could see 6 but no more than that in my opinion.
This is all silliness and a diversionary rumor with no truth from any D1 experience, scare tactic only. No one has withheld players in the UGA/gt game, Bama/Auburn game, Clemson/SC game, FSU/FU game, ohio?Michigan game, etc, etc. They have all had chances to do so, but I cannot recall even one instance where players were withheld, or didn’t play the full amount.
To insure that in an eight team expansion with guaranteed spots for the conference champs, mu proposal is to play the opening round of games in mid-December at the home field of the top 4 seeds. They are the only ones that could gear up that quickly but no team would risk losing home field advantage. No resting of players until you get beyond 8, which I would not support anyway.

If it’s a scare tactic only, why would CFB need to resort to this?
How did Donald Trump win the presidency? It’s all about public perception.
He won the Electorial College vote CB . No perception. Or did they not teach you this in your institution We had a community organizer ( what is that by they way ) in there that never had a job.
Here are some facts you can suck on
The only president to never see a year of 3 % gdp in his time in office
Lowest labor participation rate in about 50 years (95 million out of the work force )
7 in 10 Americans have less than 1k in savings
Lowest home ownership in about 50 years
1 in 5 American Families have no one working
Food Stamps up 12 million
Black youth unemployment 60%
Illegals flooding our border taking jobs and committing crime
Hey CB if you like your doctor you can keep your doctor
And you will save 2,500 on that also
Terrorists attacks being called man made disasters .
And Hillary will be lucky to stay out of jail.
Now i can understand why your football blog on has one reader. , Get out and get a job CB this blog shit ain’t working bro. I’ll bet you cried Tuesday night
We actually put a man in that signs the front of a pay check CB. We know you would not know one thing about that
Whoa, I think the point of my comment went over your head, which isn’t surprising given the scourge of typos that plague your run-on sentences. I won’t waste my time explaining it because I know from previous experience that you would never understand.
FYI, my institution was UGA, a school that you likely couldn’t get into. And for the record, I did not, nor would I ever vote for Hillary.
Did you vote for Trump ?
CB let me be the first to apologize if we are on the same team here sir .Also your first sentence is a run on by the way. ( independent dependent rule) But CB this ain’t English class . I also thought your piece on Sony was right on sir . Good work for saying what we all know about NC. I just hope he gets better as time goes on.
You did vote DT Correct?
If I intended to talk politics I wouldn’t do so on this blog comment section. My original comment was meant to be an analogy, nothing more.
I don’t think Nick is going to rest anyone for the Iron Bowl. He has a chance to run the Gus Bus off a cliff into the abyss. If he can beat them by 50, he’ll do it.
Doubtful, but think of the Auburn fans, enraged at the insult.
I was watching the upsets yesterday and thinking this would be so much more amazing if the playoff had not replaced the BCS. Expanding the playoff devalues the regular season.
We will agree to disagree..
No kidding, it has actually amplified the regular season. Fans now follow games all over the country, that didn’t happen before (except for us degenerates.) Now they hang on every word and outcome, and can discuss other teams around the country intelligently.
Disagree activity on Forums and facebook groups has declined in frequency as well as knowledge, 1 loss does not carry as much weight.
I think more than two teams should have a shot at it all in the end…still, great games all around. Knocking AU out is always good.
Because people have less to complain about. How has knowledge declined, and by what metric are you measuring that?
It’s the obvious result of trying to turn CFB into NFL-lite.
I see NFL lite more and more every year. Senior transfers is the big one to rise up this year. Also, look at the substituting strategies during the games. When player A gets yanked because player B weighs 5 lbs more to go up against what looks like defending a certain run play through a certain gap, it’s not amateur football. (I can’t prove it but it’s just an illustration to make the point that big money, big power, and big ego grows)
Well the guys at the WWL were crestfallen with our win. We took the drama right out of the Iron Bowl. Actually had a Bama fan thank me for UGA doing a little lite lifting for them. The Iron Bowl is a blood sport game no matter the records.
Will never happen. I’m gonna go ahead and guess that Bill Hancock was the ghostwriter on this gem. Purely playoff doomsday rhetoric.
This is college football, Senator. It ain’t the NFL, never will be. Don’t care how many teams you have in a college football playoff, Auburn vs Alabama will continue to mean as much as it always has.
