  3. Good grief … While I’m not going to be able to be there, I was hoping for the 7:30 slot on either SECN or ESPN. Hopefully, we’re not going to sleepwalk like we have for every other early start this year.

Kirby needs to fix this. He needs to walk into McGarity’s office and ask him how often he’s heard Sanford Stadium get as deafeningly loud as it did Saturday night in the 4th quarter against Auburn for a noon game. Then he needs to explain that recruits like night games… businesses in Athens like night games… players like night games… and most fans like night games. It’s time to tell south Georgia that if they can’t make it to a night kickoff, they can sell their tickets. I’m sick of damn noon kickoffs because our athletic director is the only one in the conference who ASKS for the worst time slot.

While I do not like ADGM, I don’t think he has any input in SEC network decisions. We win more and fewer noon games

He’s on record as saying that he prefers noon games. So when there’s a tiebreaker, you don’t think the league and the network are aware that one team wants it and one doesn’t?

It would have been an 11AM kickoff for the SEC games that got the later times so I’m sure they all resisted that. If we stop losing 4 of 5 games in the middle of the season, we won’t have the early kickoffs later in the year. We obviously have Auburn to thank for the 3:30 kickoff last week. Not much demand to fill your prime time spots with teams that lose their homecoming game to Vandy. No matter what time we play, there is no excuse for Bainbridge Bubba to lose to LaLa or GT at home. We’ll see if he can do his job and properly motivate the team.

2002 we hosted Tech at 3:30 on CBS. We were top 5. That year they became the Canine Broadcasting Station.

Win and we get better games. All there is to it. There’s no conspiracy. I’d like to see us get a few more of those 3:30 or 4 p.m. SEC network games.

              • That’s true because we were 10-1, East champs and ranked #3. Same scenario in 2012 and we’re kicking off at noon because CBS is going to put the Iron Bowl on at 3:30, period. Same ranking, same record, same opponent, almost the same stakes.

Um, Alabama was 10-1, ranked #2 and playing in a much more culturally relevant SEC game.

As others have stated, until Tech gets better (and we get better), noon is the slot here often. We’ve been picked up at night a time or two. I believe 2010 was at night.

We used to be about the only show in town before teams started playing after thanksgiving.

                • I understand that. I wasn’t saying that we should have been the 3:30 game. Auburn sucked that year, so the quality of the game was no different. As a matter of fact, we were a trendy upset pick that day.

The bottom line is that UGA administration has made it clear that we are willing to play the noon game at home anytime they want us. Many of us for various reasons hate that.

FYI – Auburn/Alabama used to be the week before Thanksgiving and both teams were off before Championship weekend. Can’t remember the year the SEC required everyone to be in play the last week of the season.

With the quality of other games that same day (not just SEC – FU/FSU, Clem and son /South Carolina, Iron Bowl, Egg bowl, Arky/LSU right ?, Mich/OSU, USC/UCLA, Ok/Ok St. Its hard for UGA/Tech to get a good slot. Us being good more than likely isn’t enough, the sweat bees also have to be pretty good.

If you whine about playing at noon you simply care more about the tailgating/partying than the game. Feel free to stay outside or at home. I realize that noon is not as great as 3:39 for lots of reasons but why complain about it when it is out of your control? How can you bitch about the team being flat at noon when you don’t even want to watch at noon?

    • Right – not like people on the other side of Atlanta or south Georgia have real lives that make it difficult for them to leave early enough to get there in time for the noon kickoff. Nope – they just care about the party and tailgating. I swear – some of y’all act like the only thing people have going on in their lives is Georgia football.

    • That has absolutely nothing to do with it. Even someone from Atlanta has to leave really early to arrive for a 12 noon kickoff with a 9:45 DawgWalk. It’s the worst kickoff time for a meaningful game for the home team. The atmosphere before the 2014 game was one of the worst pre-games in recent history. It felt like a game against a I-AA opponent instead of our in-state rival.

We beat Kentucky with a last second field goal: Apple cider, Tito’s and fireball for the cocktail now known as the “Hot Rod”
A very dry vodka martini, so dirty with pickled jalapeño liquid your Mama would hit you for looking at it, after the third FG against auburn is now known as a “Roderigo”
A 12:30 kickoff will require a “Sangre’ de Maria”, silver tequila Mary with Valentina hot sauce.

First, it’s about getting a W…Then, It’s all about the Game Day Atmosphere for fans that support the team & go to the games. 12:00 is a terrible time slot if going to the game!!! If you’re spending your hard earned money on season tickets (thousands of dollars), you’re allowed to complain! 12:00 is ok if you’re watching it on TV. Deal with it if you have to, but change it if at all possible. I don’t think GM wants to do so. It’s bad for Athens’ businesses, It’s hard for people to drive in, park, tailgate, & get to the game. It’s definitely not the best Game Day atmosphere (Nothing like hearing Natural Woman from the Band & Journey-Don’t stop believing for pump up music). Hell, half of UGA’s students aren’t even up & moving from the night before….& I’m sure recruits aren’t looking at a noon game as prime time for them to showcase their talents (or even to come see a game).

I’d call that college football’s dilemma, except the people running the show have already made their choice and won’t ever look back… at least as long as the TV money is good.

Yep…but at least at other schools, they are at least trying to oppose the 12:00 kick off…vs our AD that is quite alright with it (or even prefers it). It give us ZERO competitive edge! No matter what, the ultimate goal should be to WIN & give your fans a reason to pay money for a ticket! He should look at it as if we WIN, we make more money. That’s the only thing that’ll get him to budge! MONEY! MONEY! MONEY! Once the TV money doesn’t make up for the fans in the stands, he’ll finally realize it.

We get more noon games because we have an imbecile for an AD, and we had a tool for president in Adams who have not resisted like other schools have. While they don’t control it, we put up no resistance. Who would not fight such a time? Who voluntarily minimizes their home field advantage by getting people straight from the breakfast table to their seats. It isn’t just the central time zone schools who complained, it was Kentucky, Florida, and TN as well.

    • We had a president who asked for the noon game, so the tailgaters couldn’t mess up North Campus before and wouldn’t stay after. I’m not making excuses for the way North Campus would look after a night game, but that happened because the ACCPD and UGAPD got together to eliminate parking and tailgating on the sidewalks. Therefore, people moved to North Campus with the blessing of the administration.

Everything goes back to decisions made by Adams.

      • Anyone who lives in the metro Atlanta area would tell you that getting to a Thursday night game would be a logistical nightmare, just from a traffic standpoint. And I shudder to think how the ACCPD would handle rush hour traffic in Athens with another 90000 people added to the mix.

They do it on Saturday nights….it’s no different. Sounds like a McGarity excuse. Rush hour on Thursday…no busier than a Saturday morning Game Day. We’ll never know, cause it’ll never happen while McGarity is there.

      • You would have to leave Atlanta after Thursday morning rush hour to get to Athens in time to do anything before the game. Throw that in with the people who work at the university and the student cars who park in the spaces the AA uses on the weekend. Morehead would be forced to close the university as a holiday for the day. No way in hell that ever happens. It would be chaos and that may be an understatement.

Friday night is high school football in Georgia … that should never change.
