Game day thoughts, paint it black edition

Look, it’s a late season cupcake game. Louisiana-Lafayette is Sagarin’s 135th rated team.  They have a losing record against a weak schedule.  If Georgia is on an upward trend as the last couple of weeks seem to indicate, then this should be a relatively easy win.

Obvious rebuttal:  Nicholls.  Yeah.  So, there’s that.  Which makes this week’s key to the game also obvious.  Show up, please.

The one weird thing I can’t help but note is a couple of statistics where the two teams couldn’t be much closer:  rushing defense, where ULL is 20th nationally and Georgia is 21st, and red zone defense, where Georgia is 123rd and ULL is, somewhat amazingly, even worse at 125th.  Together, those stats would suggest a certain approach on offense to me, but then again, I don’t embrace the notion of a Fabrisian challenge in the way that Smart and Chaney seem to at times.

Other than that, try not to get injured, Dawgs.

Consider this your game day thread.  I have to go get ready to leave now.

I was hoping this would be a day we would cut Eason loose….but looks like 20-25 MPH winds. Wonder if that will affect the game planning?

  2. We need a big win today to build on the momentum from the Auburn upset. I don’t know if we have the ability to hang 50 on someone, but today would be a great time to do it.

Maybe we’ll get that elusive offensive TD today?!

Think of how boring it must be to be a Bama fan. You know Bama gone beat the living shit outa whosome ever they play. (And, believe me, no matter the score, Bama beats the shit outa people.)

Being a Georgia fan is exciting…hell we don’t have a real clue which team is gonna show up for our side…the North Carolina one? The Awbun one? or the Nichols/Vandy/Florida one.

In a world where there is so little excitement, so little drama…Thank God I am a Georgia fan.

Black unis or not, “Snakebit” has never left the stadium.

We need to drive the snakes out with all our might, starting with the barn and ending up with an insect-infested dinner. Snakes eat insects, don’t they? Leaving “Snakebit” at the Hive this year would be karmaesque (why is there a red line under this perfectly well-misunderstood word?)

Think Dawgs need the passing game to loosen up the ULL front, and the winds will impact our ability to throw deep and stretch the field. ULL held GSU rushing attack in check, and I think we struggle with that today. Low scoring game, ugly running game battle. Dawgs win under 10 ( 7 or 8) in 4th Qtr. something around low 20s to low/mid teens.

On the computer, it’s in HD. On Xfinity, it’s in “glorious” SD.

      • Apparently directtv didn’t get the memo. Not a damn thing on the alternate channel.

And I guess that means you can’t watch it on the computer as well since they make you log in.

I guess you can listen on the Bulldog app.

Has been on 611-1 since the beginning and was shown that it would be there all morning. Some people don’t have that if they customized their play list on their remote, had to add it to my channels a couple of years ago.

            • Oh I tried 611-1 on Directtv right off. Elevator music and a logo. I called their “tech support” and the first guy tried to direct me to the GT game. I asked for a supervisor instead of cussing him out and at least this guy understood the problem but according to his information the game should be on 611. I explained that the UF game overrode it but he had no solution.

I’d just stream it but my mountain dsl is so bad that it’s more buffering than streaming. So I’m stuck with the radio I guess.

Something wrong with your channel setup. I haven’t had a problem in years, the 611-1 is always available. First time I needed it had to change through the remote. Hit menu, then settings and help, and then Favorite Channels. You will choices of “Channels I Get”, or Custom 1 and Custom 2. Since I had my customed to eliminate channels I never watched, I had to edit it and add 611-1, but you can always go to Channels I Get and have access to everything on your system. Alternate Channel on SEC isn’t extra so you have it (unless there is some kind of sports package that I am paying for, but I don’t think so. I have only watched the alternate channel 3-4 times in the last 3 years.

During the half they cut to direct live of the FU/LSU game and resume with the Dawg’s second half afterwards.

So did I. Terrible time to put that significant a game on in Red Stick. I had the game on at the same time as ours to watch between plays. Big Ed blew his audition, they will be paying a lot more money to someone else next year. Hope FU gets drilled and roasted in Atlanta in two weeks.

Meant to add, it was only a logo and music until exactly 12 Noon, the pregame show, or other programming isn’t on that channel.

Who’s the head ref for today’s game? He’s new to me, and I need to know whether to hate him or not. 😉

He’s pretty bulked up, not sure I’d mess with him.

I also want to see Blankenship kick one with the wind at his back. Maybe go for a 55 yard FG.

The Dawgs have fallen asleep in the second quarter. No fire, focus or interest. Kirby needs to light ’em up at half time.

Yeah, need to wake up and put a few good drives together. Today seems like the day to ride Chubb. For what ever reason, Michel isn’t getting the yards today that Chubb is. Saddle up!

Man, the crowd is pathetic. 8:45 left in the game and there are maybe 40k still there. Looked like about 75k in the stands to start the game.

Man, that Lambert sideline pass really highlighted why Eason is the starter. Lambert’s pass took about a week to get there.

There’s work to do everywhere for this squad. Can’t put anybody away. Disappointing.

      • 35-7 with the starters in the game. They were put away. Smart got some young guys in the game to get experience on defense. Problem was ULL didn’t take their starters out. A bunch of young guys in that 2nd unit.

and third and fourth unit, too. I kept waiting for the phone to ring.

Is there work to do, sure, but at the end of the season we got more wins than losses, and that was up in the air for a while.

          Bring on the Genius.

Yep. I had to get on my phone and look at the roster. I didn’t know who in the hell was out there. Considering how many freshmen we rotate in our 2 deep we were deep into the well late and it showed.

My mistake, ee. I was watching at my cigar store and couldn’t hear the broadcast from across the room. Couldn’t really tell who was on the field, either. Shouldn’t be so quick to dawgrade…

          • No problem. If they had gotten the onside kick at the end, I think the starters would have gone back out there. Kirby wasn’t happy with those guys’ performance at all after the game. I thought the starters on defense handled them well.

Yeah probably the best case. We get a safe win, but pretty much all aspects showed we need work (as if that in question).

Yeah. I’m not a Lambert hater or anything, but after getting used to Eason’s zip, you can really see the difference when Lambert passes.

I think Ed Orgeron’s two month interview for LSU head coach has just been concluded with “We’ll get back to you.”
Plus, a crawler on my screen during our game said Texas is wooing Tom Herman. LSU ain’t gonna miss its chance to bid for the savior du jour.

I don’t want to start anything but how many times was CMR criticized for taking his foot off the gas in games like this. Kirby just looked at it as practice I guess. With the quality of the 2017 class a lot of those that were in late today will never see the field again.

Agree. Kirby mentioned it post game. “We finally got an opportunity to get a lot of young guys some playing time and they didn’t play well at all.”

    Also, Fabrisian, that’s awesome.
