Another assault story, albeit non-sexual in nature:
Baylor associate athletics director Heath Nielsen was arrested for assaulting a reporter on the field following the Bears’ 62-22 loss to TCU at home on Nov. 5.
According to KWTX-TV of Waco, Texas, Nielsen was arrested three days later and charged with misdemeanor assault with bodily injury.
He was freed on bond and hasn’t attended the Bears’ past two football games against Oklahoma and Kansas State.
Baylor officials declined to comment on Monday night, saying they don’t talk about personnel matters.
As you might expect, there’s a punch line. (See what I did there?)
Right after the incident, McBride said Nielsen told him, “You’ll never [expletive] work in this business again. You’re abusing your privileges on the field.”
Nielsen has worked the past 17 years at Baylor, and his job duties include working directly with the Baylor football program and media. According to the school’s website, Nielsen is “responsible for management of the public image of the program. Nielsen is the program’s spokesman, the liaison between local and national media, and the primary contact with television and radio networks that broadcast Baylor games.”
Heckuva job there, Heathie.

I am not an active member of our religious denomination sniffer, so I don’t look at this as someone personally offended. I don’t get the attacks on religions that simply reflect someone’s individual beliefs. Light spirited humor is something I can appreciate; much different rumblings these days with mean-spirited attacks and calls for limitations on things that are just personal.

Agree one hundred percent. I never want to lose the ability to laugh at myself. And occasionally, you (not you personally, “you” collectively). I spent nine months after Katrina in Waveland, MS managing volunteers from all over the US. Most were faith-based groups (95%). I will tell you that my opinion of religions hasn’t changed, but my respect for people of faith has. My comment above about “baptists” was about the institution, not the individuals.

Fair enough, but mistakes made by institutions, or individuals employed by the institutions, doesn’t paint the entire ideology as problematic. Every large organization has some weak people within that make bad judgements, have to separate them from the whole.

In my experience, institutions of faith do great things as institutions. Unfortunately some members of those institutions use the dogma associated with it to persecute or justify actions in many fashions on a personal level.

I got cut from the Baptist team. Make a pretty good bush league Methodist, tho. When we all get to heaven, somebody has to show the Baptists how to drink and dance, right?

Seriously, Baylor is just begging the NCAA to kill their football program. Unfortunately, after the PR disaster that was Penn State the NCAA apparently has no balls.
