Kirby getting a pass right now from the media but that won’t last much longer. They’ll blister him if the bowl game is lost and on signing day if he misses on a couple of elite in-state prospects.

I worry the powers that be will stick us with either a no-win kind of game against a decent group of five team, or try to overmatch us with another power 5 team. Most likely is that they attempt to schadenfreude the hell out of us with Miami.

They are hoping for the Texas Bowl, get ready for Birmingham…..Shreveport would be better than Birmingham, at least they have a few casinos.

Hell the SEC was so bad this year that they just gave up on the list after the ones they named. I really think they had zero expectation for us to achieve anything since we could not get ranked last year with a 10-3 record.
About the bowl, I smell another Boston College or UCF beating coming on.

If we couldn’t beat Tech with our history and film of their team, I feel very negative if we get a Big 12 or Big Ten team as an opponent. Smart will be flying about the sidelines with that “Captain of the sinking ship” look and we’ll snatch defeat from the jaws of victory once more.

Even if this year was disappointing, coming out firing on all cylinders in whatever bowl game would do a world of good for this program. More so than most other teams or any other year I can remember, it seems like it would reflect real improvement rather than an aberration in a meaningless exhibition game.

After Saturday every SEC team but one will have 4+ losses. There’s not much difference in any of the except Alabama and Missouri. Doesn’t look like much will change next for most of them. Kirby needs to get the dead wood out off the team and load up with his guys. Loran’s article had one thing right, lack of killer instinct in the program.

David Ching included Georgia in his list of biggest disappointments.
The truth is we had a lot of company.
Six SEC West teams played SEC East-level football this season. The best way to look at it is no one on next year’s schedule can be classified as an “unwinnable” game.

I believe his actual phrase was “at least somewhat disappointing seasons”, so I’d say you’re stretching it a bit.

Other than Vandy and Ky, I would say all the east is disappointed, maybe not UF…their win in Red Stick was nice enough…

My take is that it’s alabama and a bunch of flawed teams. You might argue that LSU and UF are better than the bottom 11, but pretty much any neutral field match up between team 13 through whoever you decide is 2 could go either way. Pretty much every one of the bottom 13 teams has a signature win and a “are you kidding me” loss.
Missouri over Ark. who beat FL who beat LSU that lost to Auburn who lost to UGA who lost to Vandy who beat UT and who also lost to USC. The sec has gotten both deeper and more mediocre.
The bowl match ups will be pretty interesting as almost every sec team will be matched up against a higher rated opponent with a better record Maybe we’re all good and beating each other up but it maybe that all but Alabama kinda suck. I think it’s the latter.
I think there is 1 legit top 10 team in the sec right now. That’s pretty sad and I’m not sure that’s been the case since everyone was chasing the Bear in the late 1970’s.

Some truth there, injuries did play a part. UGA likely benefited from White being outagainst Auburn. TN had injuries, transfers, etc. I do put the HC at some fault when transfers start appearing. SCar burned a redshirt and turned their season around. At a glance the SEC was filled with teams that were tanking or improving but Bama was the only steady team.
I hate to say it but UGA was about as I expected other than GT. UGA did have a rash of injuries late in the GT game and on D which was even more critical. I am bummed but not as down as many UGA fans. At the same time I do have doubts especially at OC.
A nice win in the bowl would certainly help, and more so than any year I can remember I am wanting to see how signing day turns out. If we learned anything it is that UGA does have the OL and tall WRs to do what the coaches are trying to do.

I think we were actually the underdog vs Auburn, so that was above expectations, but the 1 point losses to GT & Vandy, we were probably slightly favored in each, but you’re right, the other 9 games went as expected in wins and losses. I think if you consider the preseason Georgia was ranked like #18, then finishing 7-5 can be viewed as not meeting expectations, which is what David Ching was referring to in his comment about Georgia.

You can say what you will about media expectations. I expected a few games where UGA looked worse than they were and a couple where they played better than they were. UNC and Auburn were the upset wins, Nichols, Vandy, and GT were the ugly games.
Nichols was surprising but I thought it was early and Smart wanted the team to win a physical game. If they had stuck with the shotgun and letting Eason do what he knew, in my opinion UGA wins by a few TDs. However, Eason needed to learn to play under Center and the team needed to learn how to win in the trenches. Granted nobody expected it to be as ugly as it was.

Thought we outplayed Tech just had an untimely turnover. We dominated Vandy in yards & possession but Vandy stuffed our run.

Red Zone performance and the inability to handle the low kicks cost us both games.
Vanderbilt and Georgia Tech scored touchdowns on every trip to the red zone. We settled for field goals on four trips. In both games, official yardage favored Georgia, but the hidden yardage in the punting game swung heavily against Georgia.
In both categories this season, Georgia had historically bad performances.

Redzone performance, and giving up explosive plays. UGA should have won by 2-3 TDs. If you can’t capitalize and don’t win, it is an ugly game. Yes get the W and majority of us will forgive all the stats.

I think we were a big underdog (7 points or more?) to Auburn. That was a nice win all around, even with White being out. Failure to close against the maggots really put a sour taste on it, though.
Shouldn’t have lost to Vandy at home. 8-4/9-3 was what I was thinking. It’s just that I haven’t seen OJT in a while so it stings a little more. Hopefully the learning curve is short and sweet.

Optimistically speaking, damn close to 10-2 if you consider losses to GT & Vandy were 1 point losses and UT was 3 points on a Hail Mary. Razor thin between 7-5 and 10-2.

You might be right, how many other SEC teams had 3 losses for a total of 5 points including 1 with no time on the clock? If we’re the only 1, I’d say our record does not represent the whole story.

I don’t see 3-9. I see 5-7 with losses to Mizzou and Kentucky. Nicholls was bad, but we didn’t need late game heroics or them to blow it late to win, so bad doesn’t necessarily translate into in doubt. We needed late game heroics to beat both Mizzou and Kentucky.

I have no metrics or specific cases on hand to prove this, but it seems to me that largely inexperienced teams who lose a lot of really close games usually wind up doing REALLY well the next year. I’d say that’s a silver lining to look forward to.

For awhile this season the SEC West was the rage. The East is what it is now. Biggest disappointments in the East. Florida and Tennessee. Don’t think the Vols beat anybody in the West. Both of those teams were loaded either on the offensive side or the defensive side. And the side not on the same level never even came close to what they could do. Tennessee absolutely has no defense, and Florida has no offense. And those coaches and staff have had at least two seasons to get better. At least Georgia and Florida beat teams that were ranked and were heavy favorites over them.
No doubt the East is way down. After all the ACC teams Tech, Clemson, and FSU had a field day against the East last Saturday.
My advice to those coaches and teams. Better start working harder. Where you are at now ain’t cutting it. Living off the past is over dudes.
Schedule 2016. Thought the Dogs had to many early season road games. They did play well on the road.
The saying defense travels well. Well, the Dogs’ defense as young as they were played well on the road. And to a point so did the offense.
Hopefully the recruiting for LBs and linemen goes well. For sure the offensive line is being rebuilt from scratch, and to have enough for good rotation in a game.
Plus find a legit, SEC center for a change.

Off topic but it has blowed up a storm here in the Classsic City! Wonder if the creek has climbed it’s bank and is now in New Georgia Tech Fans back yard, where he ran that nice fence. One would think that an engineer would know where the flood plain is?
