“My career is complete!”

This year’s Iron Bowl may have been a bit of a snoozer, but up in the booth, Joe Namath and Verne Lundquist more than made up for it.

Helluva capper there, Uncle Verne.

Great clip. Of a really great moment. At the end of the day, I have come to believe, all we leave on this earth is friendships and relationships and memories of people. Which this clip certainly shows……

I have come to believe, all we leave on this earth is friendships and relationships and memories of people.

When on their deathbed, absolutely no one says that they wished that they had more stuff, had a bigger house, or worked more. They all wish they had spent more time with their family and friends and that they had.

The number one detriment to most people’s lives is that they spend money they don’t have on shit they don’t need in order to impress people that do not care about them. If you want to be happy, get out of the rat race and seek control over time.

That was a great moment in the booth, you could tell the feelings were genuine. Verne deserved that, and he also deserved better games on his farewell tour than he has been handed. Doubt he has anything moire competitive Saturday in his final act but he is such a good guy even he has to enjoy beat downs of FU, Auburn, and TN a little. We all have to live vicariously through Sir Nick these days.

I was driving so I didn’t get to see that. Thanks for posting, it was great seeing those guys and their appreciation for one another. Love the fur coat on Joe. I hope he’s gotten his act together and is around for a long time. He’s the only athlete I ever wrote to for an autograph (when I was around 8 years old in 1968). He sent me an autographed picture in his white (!) cleats. Unfortunately, it was lost through the years.

Saw Verne out for supper in Athens, the Friday night before the GA-Aub game.
