A couple of new Lexicon entries, at your service

If you take a look, you’ll find Throwaway Season added to the list, as well as a related entry, Dantzlering, inspired by this tour de force.  The man’s a master; you have to give him that.

If you have any editorial suggestions, feel free to share.  I’m always willing to improve the product.

I can not read that, Georgia may not have Alabama talent, but who the hell does. But it does have talent. No amount of whitewashing is going to make me believe otherwise.

      Here is a little taste:

“Those three brutal losses between the hedges hurt, but to arrive at the mountaintop, often a journey through the valley is required. The hard and painful days are seeking “never again” lessons that can, one day, fuel a rise to glory.”

See, Kirby knows that in order to win tomorrow we must get our ass kicked today, because it is impossible to win today AND tomorrow.

    • James, it’s one of those pieces that doesn’t require reading past the header to get the complete flavor of the rest.

Gosh, with as bad as the talent gap is at Georgia and how we’re lucky to field players that can actually compete with Nichols, it’s hard to believe Richt won 10 games last season. He should’ve won coach of the year.

Richt was able to utilize zone blocking 😉 schemes with an undersized front line to beat the more talent laden D fronts like Nichols.
If only CMR had invested in a “special teams” coach he could have won more than 10 games. Still….he Never loss to Vandy,uT, and Tech at home and gators on that neutral field in the same season. I think that must be a new record. If there is a dirth of talent I’m thinking it’s the coaches running into 9 man box all day and forgetting that TE can block And catch a football.
      Just sayin’

      • He lost to Kentucky and Vandy in the same season with a future #1 draft pick at QB. UT put up a fiftyburger in Sanford. Were you equally snarky then?

Also finished 9-4 with a nice run of wins at the end of the season showing improvement and development.

          • My point still stands. He’s cherry picking to find an argument.

You’re not happy with the season or Kirby? Fine. That’s fair. But to act as if the previous guy never had bad seasons when he lost to inferior talent is absurd.

THIS! Pretending we are new to losing games we should win is just blind denial. And on the other side of the coin, we should all be able to critique Kirby without hearing how much we loved CMR. It was time for a change! Now, we just have to determine, with time, if the right change was made. In the meantime, fans are going to critique Smart’s every move. We will criticize him when we lose and praise him when we win…it’s the way of sports and fans.

Probably not, because in 06 CMR was coming off his second SECC in five years and had a little leeway

          • So he took a defending SEC Champions and THEN managed to lose to Vandy and Kentucky? Hey AHD, has that ever been done before?

Easy G. It’s Wednesday over the hump day. And Richt never lost to all 4 in the same season. And the whole “talent” thing seems ridiculous to me.

              • My point is it’s an arbitrary 4 loses. There’s no evidence to me that those are 4 worse teams than say MSU, Colorado, UCF, and USC in 2010. Or the 06 losses.

Again, I’m fine with being critical of Kirby. But every criticism can’t devolve into why Richt was thisclose to putting it all together in year 16 and how he never lost to teams he shouldn’t have. I simply don it believe there is any evidence to support that.

Talk about cherry picking. Defending champion is almost as worthless a title as conference champion (after a CCG win). Remember defending national champion Auburn went 4-4 in the SEC in 2011.

Richt had two SEC championships and another SEC East championship on his resume when that happened. Everyone knew he was capable of getting better results.

We do not know yet with our Coach at this point.

We heard this crap from Danzler driving home those Saturdays and then again if one happened to listen to Bulldog Brunch on Sundays. It really gets old blaming your predecessor for all your failings. I am supportive of Kirby and demand he be given the opportunity to succeed. But please…enough of the whining about talent stuff. As stated above, we don’t have Alabama talent. As for the rest of a very mediocre SEC, spare me this nonsense.

    • We don’t have Alabama talent … last time I looked no one else in the league did either. Did we have enough talent to score a TD against Auburn, finish against tech, be competitive against Florida, beat Vandy like a rented mule, and do more than squeak by Nicholls? Yes.

Nobody in the SEC is close to Bama talent…that should be obvious when you see an 8-4 AU in the Sugar Bowl who lost to its two biggest rivals at years end.

  12. Dantzler’s article is cherry picking at its best (or worst). He refused to put any blame for snatching defeat from the jaws of victory or the absolute failure to show up in multiple games on the staff. Kirby pi$$ed away every bit of goodwill from his hiring with his OJT failures and his selection of Jim Chaney.

I read the article because I respect Greg and most of the guys at BI a lot, but I felt dumber after I read that drivel.

BI seems like a quality blog. But its awkward to navigate ( for me) . Sometimes it has the feel of a HS Yearbook with all the pics taking forever to load.

      • I guess instead of cherry picking … he’s really steamrolling his point of view about the roster in the absence of everything else. I can almost hear him yelling, “Keep calm! All is well!” like Kevin Bacon in Animal House. I don’t know Dantzler, but he has never appeared to be the brightest bulb in the Georgia sports media.

I thought Dantzler was right about the talent shortage being a problem at line, also highlighting Smart’s best skill, recruiting, and I kind of agree with his prediction that we win more games than 7-5 in 2017, but big year sets up in 2018 after the oline has beefed up and is talented and deep. Comparing the current Smart to Saban or Dabo is Pollyanna right now, we just don’t know enough. Love the Lexicon, though, nice work.
