I touched on this yesterday, but David Ching nicely fleshes out how the postseason talent drain in the SEC East is shaping up in this post. Go down his list and it’s apparent that Florida and Tennessee are taking the biggest hits in the division and that Georgia, while not going completely unscathed, comes off looking a lot healthier by comparison.

Beginning to think the Dawgs are better off with a Bama win (recruiting wise. It is bad enough Bama is in it just about every year, now we have Clemson (2 years running) to contend with……both states bordering GA. I would hate to see Clemson pick up some recruiting momentum in the years to come with a MNC. Thinks I will just pull for a Bama loss rather than a Clemson win … : > )

We lose 3 of 5 starting OL. No one else in the division loses more than one.
UT losing their QB is nice. UF never had a QB to lose. But their D takes some hits.
Mizzou getting a lot of firepower back. With a lot of def talent graduating, could be a year for them to put some points up.
Vandy is getting a lot back.
UGA is going to clearly win this period. They lose less and they are going to gain more in recruiting than everyone else.

Not sure if the article covers it, but I believe Florida is losing more OL than that. I saw an article talking about their starting center transferring out of the program. This is in addition to losing another to the draft.

yeah. I am sure everyone will continue to lose guys through the spring and summer…injuries, cops, transfers.
UGA still losing at least 3 is not good.

Not arguing with you, just asking a sincere question. If the replacements will be better, and three have been in the program for two years already, then why did they not beat out this year’s seniors?
Pat Allen, Sam Madden and Sage Harden were all 4 star recruits, all redshirted to get bigger and stronger, and all have significant practice time. Why will they be better next September than the guys they could not beat out last September?

I could be wrong but I believe the red shirt linemen were never given the opportunity to compete for playing time, as in, the line that played was the best of what Kirby made available to Pittman. Part of the pain we endured was knowing that there very well could have been better players riding the pine. I think this is part of the “throwaway” meme for the season.

If the young guys can step up, we could see significant upgrades over Catalina and Kublanow so I’m not sure losing 3 is a bad thing.

Yeah, we’re going from having no real SEC-caliber tackles to several (though they’re inexperienced.)

hmmm.. I guess guys that couldnt beat out those guys this year could be better than them next year without gaining any actual game experience. I guess that is a thing that could happen.

When you’re in a throwaway year you can redshirt your freshmen linemen to get them bigger and stronger and ready for SEC competition!

I agree, also most ol will stay for all 5 years with the redshirt. This is one the few positions the NFL prefers maturity and experience.

High school kids, especially lineman, gain strength in a college ST program. The OL need that year of strength gain the most of any position to compete in the trenches of the SEC. The O-line is probably the toughest position for a true freshman to be successful at in college.

Hmmm. The JC transfer already on campus could turn out to be an upgrade at left tackle, and Wilson could be good enough to grab the right tackle spot as a true freshman. After all, it has happened before. See, there’s this kid, at a school to our west with a pretty strong track record of excellent O-lines, starting at right tackle in a big game coming up next week. A true freshman, imagine that? I guess those things could happen also.

Sturdivant(sp) killed it as a freshmen, so just because they are freshmen does not mean they cannot be good. Also, I trust the skills of our Pittman to make them good.

Think UGA will have to be better, across the board. We will not be a unanimous pick for the East, but will be the favorite (barring significant injuries before the season). Book it, Dano!

I’m kinda surprised and really thankful guys like Chubb Michel are coming back. One thing that’s been on my mind, and something that further makes Chubb an all-time Dawg, is what he said about losing to Tech when he was asked about why he was returning. Sure, you could look at his stats, class and work ethic. You can look at what he’s been through and where he’s come from. I’m not sure I believe losing to tech had all that much to do with it but the dude gets it. He acknowledged it when most others wouldn’t, including our coaches. Maybe more than any other game losing to tech is a sure sign of regression, at least in my opinion. Chubb really down deserve the best in life and he’s a wonderful ambassador for UGA. He’s my favorite Dawg of the last couple decades.
He gets a little healthier and the OL somehow improves and we find some balance to keep defenses honest, he’ll go out with a bang.

This would be great and I am 100% for it but the Dawgs have to win more and the team around him play better, including the coaches coach better.

Unless we’re in the playoff, the WWL will never give the publicity to a Georgia player sufficient to win the Hypeman.

It’s gotta be extra frustrating because he’s never started a game against them and come off the field with a win, which is very rare for a UGA player.

For recruiting momentum sake alone we better damn win the east next year.
Looking long term, the fact that both UF’s and UT’s recruiting has been mediocre at best is great news for us. UT’s I can understand given the state and Mr. 3 star general, but UF’s poor recruiting is a real head scratcher.

Maybe Mac is a bad recruiter. He’s done well at 2 places with other people’s players but nothing I have seen so far shows me he can get his own.

Saw this afternoon that FU has lost another player today who is going to the NFL. Muschamp recruit, several have bailed now. Also promoted Shannon to DC. Gayturds to fall to Dawgs in JAX. Could begin a nice run, they are struggling with recruiting again this year.

UF’s recruiting frankly is a disaster given their fertile recruiting ground. Clearly McElwain and co. are poor recruiters, and UF fans are really starting to freak out. Some of their posters on their 247 board are basically predicting that Smart is about to own McElwain in the years to come unless they turn things around asap on the recruiting front.

It looks like the real winner in the departure wars is South Carolina. Boom did better than expected with the players he was left with by SOS. If he can hold together what he has left and put together a decent recruiting year he might have something next year.

Vandy losses their LB, who was probably one of the best LBs in the SEC last year. Webb will be back, but Vandy will still struggle on O.

There are UNCONFIRMED rumors that he has academic issues that could impact his future eligibility. If true, that probably influenced his decision. Regardless, it’s probably the right thing because he’s not getting any bigger.

Pretty simple, staying another year will not prove he is any more elusive than he already has shown to be. This year, he was able to show that he can be more of a threat in the passing game. Really, he was not going to prove anything next year outside of possibly set some SEC records as a KR/PR. He will likely go late draft to a team that will use his speedy skills where they can.
