Personally, I’m not seeing this game as big problem. One, we’ve got little reason to be overconfident. Two, I think that we’ll be able to push them around on both lines. The biggest problem a young offensive line has is pass pro. Our run blocking scheme is pretty straight forward and we’ll outweigh then by 60 a man. We’ll be ok in this one.

Boise State went 12-1 in 2011. They had 3 D-linemen drafted. All three are still active in the NFL. Boise State has 0 other active defensive linemen in the NFL. In other words that 2011 team was not like the rest. Also we started a true freshman at TB in that game which is never good.
Something tells me that Boise game in 2011 isn’t comparable to UGA vs. Appy State in 2017.

The Boise starting RB in that game is a starter in the NFL and the Boise QB is still in the league as well.

That Boise State D line was undersized compared to ours that year by 50 lbs. as well. and beat the pants off the largest line in all of football. Am I remembering that correctly? Wasn’t that the year we had the largest line?

Yep. Largest in all of football. Two years later, we had the smallest in the SEC. Which just goes to show that size alone doesn’t tell you much about how effective a line will be. But that doesn’t fit the popular narrative.

According to S&P+, they were the 4th best team in the country that year. In hindsight, that loss isn’t nearly as bad as it was made out to be at the time.

Yep. Seniors and 5th year seniors I believe those Boise State boys were. Lot of difference in a 24 year old and a 19 yr old.

I think we’ll line up like we’re going to run for over 300, with the receivers in tight and in the I formation. I just hope we don’t bounce off the pile of 18-20 people in the middle of the line like last year.

App State will surely get our team’s full attention. It’s the opener and their reputation precedes them. If we pull a UT like performance Kirby’s new name will be Booch.

We’re the underdog! We’re not as talented as App State! Our line is a bunch of converted wide receivers! We’ve still got to establish our identity! Our QB can’t throw to his left with a wind to his back in the third quarter!
Did I miss anything? Actually, the thing that worries me is exactly what happened with Nicholls last year. The players and coaches take the team lightly and refuse to adjust. If App State puts 9 men in the box and we insist on running inside the tackles against it, we probably won’t put many points up.

Maybe the players did take Nicholls lightly last year but the real problem was the coaches who continually ran the ball into the teeth of a stacked D.

Like some of you have pointed out, could easily be a nail biter if our staff insists on adhering to a scheme whether the opponent lets us or not. I sure hope we have the the right people calling the shots because if we don’t take advantage of what the opponent gives, it’ll be another season of “maybe next year”.
The second a coach says “the play would work if you would man up and play harder” they’re screwed.

Watched the U against them and they ran right through them. Now App St does have the kind of offense that has given Kirby fits even with the best players in college football. It might just be a shootout.

I’m a Dawg to be sure, but my son played at App 02-04 and there are coaches there still when he was playing ( Satterfield being one and Dale Jones of UT fame) App looks forward to playing P5 schools; always have. If even in a loss they figure to judge their own worth by how they can punish the big boys. UT last year, Michigan anyone? Auburn in 99….a 22-15 Auburn win in the fourth. They can be very tough at certain times.

The Lamb kid at QB is probably better than most SEC QB’s were last year, aside from a few obvious choices. A senior this year I believe.
