Everybody sucks in the SEC East.

I’d mock this

The SEC East was terrible in 2016. Florida backed into the division championship only after Tennessee choked it away. Some metrics rated the division the worst in major college football and barely better than the top American Athletic Conference division.

Obviously, it’s been a fall from grace for the division with the departure of several notable coaches, including Urban Meyer, Gary Pinkel and Mark Richt. However, that means the division is wide open for the taking.

While speaking at the NFL combine to SEC Country’s Alec Shirkey, several former Florida players were clear.

“I think [Will Muschamp]‘s going to turn [South Carolina] around and they’re going to be a competitor in the SEC East,” former Florida defensive tackle Caleb Brantley said.

Muschamp, of course, was coached Florida from 2011 to 2014. He recruited most of the players involved in Jim McElwain’s back-to-back SEC East championship teams. However, Florida unceremoniously sacked Muschamp after a 6-5 season. Three of his four seasons were underwhelming.

However, 2016 was perhaps his most impressive coaching job. Despite having a severely under-talented roster, South Carolina went 6-7 and qualified for a bowl game. That included a shocking 24-21 win over No. 18 Tennessee and upset over Vanderbilt in the opener.

… but damn, that last sentence is more than Georgia was capable of last year.  Time to step it up, Kirby.

I’ll be sick if Boom brings SC around before Kirby gets us going…sick I tell ya.

Florida offenses have been atrocious since Tim Tebow departed the program, yet they’ve managed to ride the coattails of their D and back into the SEC Championship two years in a row. I think a lot of Georgia fans were hoping Kirby could emulate Jim’s success. Didn’t happen.

Tenn has channeled the ghost of Bambino and will be under the voodoo spell of Phil Fulmer for the next 50 years. They’re screwed!

Boom still has a talent gap and we’re all waiting for his volcano to blow, so I’m not ready to buy stock in the Cocks just yet.

I think the jury is out on UGA. Kirby says the right things and has bludgeoned McGarity into prying open his checkbook to make necessary facilities investments. On the flip side, Chaney was a really BAD hire, but I understand the two-for-one package deal to secure Pittman. Kirby has recruited well for the Dawgs, but it’s time to prove the staff’s coaching chops and make the most of what they have. The East is indeed ripe for the taking.

Don’t worry DB — the fun is about to begin.

Like yourself, Chaney is my main concern as well. Hopefully the talent on the O side of the ball will overcome his shortcomings. Regardless, I really hope he’s taking huge steps to improve his health, as he’s really overweight and doesn’t exactly cast a good imagine waddling around on the sideline.

3 and G you sound like Chaney’s wife- always complaining about his weight.
I believe Chaney’s limitations last year were CKS’s making.

I laughed — that was funny. Optically it just doesn’t look good, and every time I see him on TV I think to myself, ‘if he isn’t disciplined enough to take care of something as vitally important as his own health, he probably isn’t disciplined enough to improve in his craft, pay attention to details, and be the best OC he possibly can be.’

It’s not that my favorite team is to win the sec east, but to really secure home/road wins where you say “damn, didn’t see that coming”! GO DAWGS!

I think the odds of Chaney lasting through the entire season are about 25%. If we are not 6-0 at the break… he gone. The only game he can lose next year and keep his job is Auburn… imo. And I think Kirby will pull the trigger on the day after any loss after the bye week… single game elimination and an audition for Coley or the new guy from Minnesota.

Right. You just don’t fire your OC or DC unless the season unfolding is an unmitigated disaster, in which you’ve already lost at least 2-3 games without much else to play for the remainder of the way.

How about after the Spring Game Senator? If we don’t see signs of new energy on the offense after that pathetic 2016 season, why wait until you need to do a mid-season firing? Waiting until mid-season, or after the Tech game, will not only screw up recruiting, it will jeopardize the 2018 season because we kicked the can down the road. This guy isn’t an 18 year old recruit just hitting campus, there is plenty of film and stats on him, don’t expect him to “grow into” the job at this point.

I would love to be surprised with a total new approach but last season pretty much showed me he was incapable of adjusting. It wasn’t like he didn’t have talent on offense, it may not have been Top 10 level but it wasn’t an empty tank. When I saw a combined less than 100 yards rushing against Vandy and Florida with a healthy Nick/Sony at RB I knew he was an empty suit. Eight quarters, less than 100 yards…damn. Wouldn’t you think that was because we were gouging and punishing them with passing because they had stacked the box.

        • That’s a great idea, Mac!

If there’s one thing Georgia’s offense needs, it’s a fourth offensive coordinator in four seasons.

Richt got 15 years and a lot of the fan base was okay with that. Now one year appears to be the new black.

          I’m getting whiplash.

Any play that doesn’t result in a TD on O or TFL on D is grounds for firing!

We are loaded on defense with more upperclassmen then we have had or will have again in years. No reason defense can’t get ppg below 20.

On offense it’s all about putting points on the board. Play calling matters. If we can’t put up over 30 ppg then we will have another 8-4 type season. We will know after the first six games… thus the mid season change.

If UGA goes 8-4 this year, then CKS absolutely has to win big in ’18 or else. IMO of course. 8-4 would be a disaster of a season.

No Senator, you are right…as always. We should promote stability as our ideal and not competence. Why admit it was a bad 2nd choice, knee jerk reaction? Let’s live with it, not admitting you made an honest mistake is way too hard. Averaging in the 20s against a weak schedule wasn’t so bad.

Any losses to an eastern division opponent will be tough to overcome… two losses will put Kirby squarely on the hot seat in 2018. If that happens then I don’t see Kirby doing anything other than trying to correct the problem asap.

I don’t care if UGA goes winless this year. Kirby is one year into a six year contract. He will be back in 2018, period.

and chaney will be 2 years into a 3 year contract. Look… I’m not hoping for failure. Chaney said he’s gonnna “freshen things up”… if he does… it’s all good… if not… he’s toast and Kirby is on the hot seat.
