Watch Lorenzo Carter Maurice Smith fail to hold contain on this play.

Sometimes, it doesn’t take much to bust open a big play, just enough.

Sheesh. I wonder if Kirby showed him that play when he was convincing him to come back. They should start every defensive meeting with that play.

When everyone does their job and does what they are supposed to do, the results are night and day. As I recall, Pruitt was pretty good at getting and keeping guys in the right position and getting them to stay at home.

He has all the physical tools to be sure, and was one of the most sought after of recruits coming out of high school. But, in one man’s opinion he was and is overrated and has not measured up to the expectations. He should dominate offenses, but never seems to get the job done when needed. Am I a bad fan?

That’s Maurice Smith not containing. Carter is on he near side and takes on the block with his inside shoulder as he should if he has contain. Carter’s angle is too straight ahead, he needs to crash towards the ball .

  4. I refuse to watch any highlight of that abortion that was the Ole Miss game last year. That game was a bed soiling of epic proportions.

Carter improved greatly through the year. I was not at all shocked that the D had problems with Ole Miss early in the year.

Blocking them might be a matter of a guy being better than the guy across from him, but reading and occupying seems like a coaching deal.

I wonder if we tried any of that reading them stuff this past season.

    • So that must mean Smith has had shitty coaching since pee-wee football league, because that is how long he has been coached not to get sucked in when you have contain.

You can undo a lot of great work with a couple months of bad work.

So in a couple of months Kirby Smart and Mel Tucker undid the years of coaching that Smith received from…Kirby Smart and Mel Tucker?

          🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔

  7. Anyone else feel like Mo Smith loafed at times? Look how lax he is turning around.

      In short: no.
He knows he’s toast the moment Kelly goes by. Not a thing he can do about it.

He doesn’t know the outcome of the play. And given he blew his assignment he should have started his penalty sprints right then and there.

IF I never see another highlight of that game, I will live just fine.

  9. This is what happens when you take guys who’ve spent 4 years playing for Saban. It’s hard to break all of those bad habits.

You’re right having a bunch of Pros behind you can cover up a lot of problems. Alabama could get away with a lot of little mistakes because they had eleven athletes better than your eleven. It came home to roost in this years CFB NC when the other eleven guys were as good as Alabama’s.

      • I think the biggest differences were Watson > Hurts and Scarborough going down. Man for man alabama is still better than Clemson and everybody else. Having a big advantage at qb off sets a lot.
