Herb Hand is a good dude.

I don’t normally dish out praise for Auburn’s coaches, but today, I’ll make an exception.  And Hand is absolutely right about this:

As sad a life as it probably is…

I guess it would be kind of funny if he ended up getting an offer from Hand when he comes down to evaluate him.

There’s more to this story. It doesn’t make sense based on the facts given unless somebody in Alabama randomly picked a kid in south Florida and is a psychopath.

6’4″ 320 and no Power 5 offers. He must move like he is in quicksand. Terrible thing to do to a kid but the why of the thing is very strange to me.

I am glad Coach Hand is coming to see him. What a cruel prank.

    • Yes and on the bright side probably a good thing for his exposure nationally.

And he got the story out as to how hard he is working, also. Wonder how many other kids would like that to happen – that puts their name out nationally? How could a 6’4″, 320 lb kid be noticed only by FAMU?

Lord help us from another Mante Teo. Right now I believe the parties involved from the info provided, but there continues to be something missing here. I think we should give him a look to see what in hell turns the Power 5 schools off. He certainly fits the description of a good Center and all you have to do is train him to fall forward.

“all you have to do is train him to fall forward” If it were only that easy we wouldn’t be at the bottom of the NCAA in offensive Red Zone performance. Wait…it may be, we were at the bottom of the NCAA in defensive Red Zone performance as well. Guess we never practiced against that technique.

What would be cool is if this young man was clever enough to have used this ploy to get his name and profile out. Beats the hell out of Daddy Ken’s effort to secure a scholarship. And certainly better than the bizarre Mante Teo screenplay.

Herb Hand is a good guy. But this is the sort of thing some tech savvy ‘friend’ of his might have done to him, as a cruel joke. Kids can be like that. For the technologically inclined, fake – and almost untraceable – phone numbers are easy to come by. I mean, why would anyone even know his name except for someone he knows? I wouldn’t give the Bama folks too much credit. I bet this is someone he knows.

Indeed — very easy to access/use phone numbers using any area codes as you wish. For example, some organizations utilize ‘local presence’ technology for their sales reps, which allows a rep sitting behind a computer in, say, Raleigh, to call a potential target in Amarillo, TX using a local Amarillo area code (thus increasing the likelihood of an answer on the other end.) I personally don’t agree with such tactics and believe it backfires more than not, btw.

With all that said, this is Alabama we’re talking about, so more likely than not its some warped rival fan who happens to live within that area code.

Maybe it’s just me, but I can’t even tell you who the ranked kids are, and certainly not any one kid who has no ranking. Why pick on him?

It wasn’t just a spoof call from a fake area code. The person acted as an adult, had knowledge of Hand and recruiting techniques. The party went from a conversation to an offer in a sophisticated run up; don’t think kids can fake that. Someone had full info concerning this kid. Why would another school fake contact with a kid who isn’t being recruited heavily?

I’m struggling to come up with the pranker’s upside in this too. An Alabama fan creates a stink for Hand when the kid says they called him and then didn’t back up their offer? And then this becomes a cloud over Auburn?

Sounds like someone was smoking a little too much maryjane one night. Yes, these folks need a life.
