… During some periods a select group of receivers, tight ends and tailbacks have been together, running routes under the direction of receivers coach James Coley.
They start in the middle of the field, and run the same route, whatever their position: Terry Godwin (receiver), Mecole Hardman (receiver), Isaac Nauta (tight end), Sony Michel (tailback), Brian Herrien (tailback), and others.
It all reflects one of those tweaks that Georgia offensive coordinator Jim Chaney is making to this year’s offense: Putting their players in the best position to make plays, and that includes putting certain players in the slot, where they would create either a size or speed mismatch for a defender.
“It’s been a change. Guys like Sony being in the slot,” inside linebacker Natrez Patrick said this week. “It’s a nightmare looking across and having to check Sony in an open field.”
No shit.
I’ll believe it when I see it. But I’d really like to see it.

You know, it will be fun to watch the spring game to see if any of this shows up. I wouldn’t expect to see the whole playbook, but tease us a little, please.
That might make the traffic hassle worthwhile.

Everything hinges on the OL blocking long enough and then Eason recognizing who should get the ball… but having said I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t thrilled at the thought of flexing Sony out to the slot in a 2-back shotgun set.

The key is the OL. The OL should be vastly improved this year for one simple, but very important peace, the same coaching staff is back. Continuity at the OL coaching position and OC position are critical. If we don’t see Improvement this year in the offense, it falls on Chaney.

Every year we practice stuff and hear rumors that we are going to be doing this or that and every year we don’t do it. Color me skeptical.

Me too. I do this every year, drink the kool aid, get all excited, then watch them choke, no show or just flat get beat. Watching them beat the patsies is ok, but I would like to see strong wins over good competition. Until I see that, meh. We’ll see.

This would be Scott Howard’s play by play call on such a formation/play:
“Dawgs up to the line, we’re on our own 32. Eason takes the snap…hands it off to Michel….Michel actually catches it 15 yards downfield…makes a man miss!…Michel still going!…and they finally bring him down at their 29!!!{literally screaming at this point}…a 39 yard gain!!! Boy that was some formation…Michel lined up like he was going to take the hand-off, and in the blink of an eye he’s catching the ball way down field for the Dawgs and getting those all important YAC’s. Yea baby!”
